Need an additional grown up corgi!
Hello Everyone,
I live in a true corgi family and we currently have four, spread between me and my fiancé, my brother and his wife and my dad. Recently, we had to put down my dad’s corgi who was almost 15. He was really the first corgi in the family and inspired all those that followed. Anyway, when he was put down, he left behind my dad’s other corgi Otto. Otto is a definite follower and a bit of a free spirit. He is the sweetest dog I have ever met and loves to play with everyone, but without Cody he has been very nervous about many things (he won’t go out at night unless another dog is there to go with him!) and has been desperate to play with anyone (he has recently started bugging the cats but they do not seem to appreciate his antics).
Anyway, my dad does not have time to raise a puppy since he works during the day, and so we are on the lookout for a new grown-up friend for Otto, and I was wondering if anyone knows of a good place to start (rescues, asking breeders if they have and older dog, or maybe you have heard of one somewhere etc.) He gets along with anyone so a more dominant corgi would be fine, but we would like one that would fit in with all of the corgis in the family since they visit each other often. It is also a great house for a corgi with a dog door so they can go out during the day, and horses to play with when supervised, and overall three acres to run around and be a corgi on. It is in central PA but would be willing to go as far north as through New York or as far south as through Virginia for the perfect fifth corgi. Thank you in advance for all your help!

I have had at least two breeders mention to me that they have adults available, but we might take that option so forgive me for being a bit rude and keeping our specific contacts to ourselves til we decide! We are in Northeast PA. However if we don't take an adult I can see if I can pass on your details to the breeders in question.
I think the bigger breeders do have adults available. I would start with the PWCCA.org breeder referral and just start contacting them. Let them know what personality dog you are looking for, and they may have a match. Good luck!

Good on you, Beth. Yes, the PWCCA (Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of America) is a great place to start. Also search corgi rescues. You have to be selective on Petfinder, as many dogs they label as corgis are nowhere near a corgi breed. The adult dogs are out there. You just have to look. Also, Sam Tsang who runs our little website here is connected with Sunshine Corgi Rescue in FL and could be an excellent resource for you. Best of luck!

Thank you for your suggestions and help! The search continues but we are now working with a local rescue and keeping an eye on petfinder.com just in case! In the meantime Otto has learned how to make the cats play with him and has developed a new found interest in his toys!

I would suggest rescues. Check out petfinder.com and some local Corgi rescue groups. Saving a life AND getting an awesome pet in the process is always worth it.
