My female corgi, Roxi, is a 6 year old rescue.  I've had her for over a year and while some behaviors have been moderated (with the help of a finally overburdened larger brother), she still despises beeping noises.  I understand the loud noise fear as it's a common fear.  But anything that beeps in the night (or day) causes a stress reaction.  She barks, jumps at the site of the noise and refuses to be calmed down until it stops.  Have the smoke alarm go off for whatever reason and she loses her doggy mind.  Goes into such a frenzy that she ends up jumping into the air, biting and snapping as her head swings back and forth, foams at the mouth and has no clue that anything else exists.  The first time I saw this was when we were gone for a few hours and came home to it.  No idea how long the alarm had been active.  I had to physically pick her up and take her outside for a half hour walk to calm her down.  Have tried desensitizing, positive reinforcement, ignoring, negative reinforcement (last resort).  Nothing works.  HELP!

I think taking her outside to calm down was a good thing to do. Just getting her focus changed will really help. Our old guy (RIP) used to freak when we ran over a rumble strip when traveling (something we do a lot) and the only thing that would help was stopping for a potty break. Otherwise I have nothing better to offer. It is difficult to get an older dog to get over a fear. Sparty got better as his hearing diminished since he could no longer hear thunder and such. Does she take a treat when she is so frightened?
