Registration papers???

Any suggestions on how to retrieve registration papers when we don't have any AKC numbers, sires name, etc.? My son has taken in his deceased father's welch corgi but we don't have the records. Have called the vet and they have minimal information available too. The AKC paperwork wants quite a bit of detail that we don't have. Any suggestions?

If he's not going to show the dog and therefore not use him for breeding, he really doesn't need the papers does he? Did the dad maybe keep the papers in a lock box at the bank? I'm surprised AKC can't trace the papers using the owner's name, the dad. Are you sure the dad sent in the papers to register the dog? Just some thoughts. Is the dog microchipped? Maybe that might help.

That's the thing, we'd like to breed him one time. He is chipped so maybe the vet can help out there. There was no lock box....paperwork was completely a lost cause. Thank you for input. I'll follow some of these leads.

At the risk of really offending someone here, I'm going to say this anyway because it needs to be said. It sounds to me like this dog absolutely does not need to be bred. If he were competing and successful in any of the venues that would constitute a dog of merit to be bred, you would have his registration paperwork. I'm sorry, but a dog with spine issues does not need to be passing those on to his puppies. A dog that is aggressive towards people does not need to be passing that on to his puppies. Please know I'm saying this without a hint of malice or judgment on you as a person, but do not breed this dog. Please do some research on the responsibilities associated with breeding dogs and the horrible health/temperament problems that can happen when well meaning people do a "backyard breeding." Read these articles here and here before breeding your dog. Please, please, please think about this seriously and then don't do it.
