Our 14 hour road trip to Florida is next week. I'm getting excited! We've been taking Kirbs out in the car more to make sure she's used to it by next week although I'm sure nothing will prepare us for 14 hours on the road, straight through.
We've been going to FL about 2 times a year for the past couple years. So we've got our usual route down pat, But it may change this trip, depending on Kirbs. I've been looking for a map site that will let me search my route or just my start and destination and see where some good puppy stops are along the way. I would prefer not making gas stations her only stopping spots. I know she'll need a good break every so often, a little run, etc. Has anyone found anything like this?

We've taken some road trips with Stanley. I use a series of website to help map out our trips with him:
http://www.bringfido.com/
http://www.dogfriendly.com/

Those two are good for finding pet friendly restaurants, stores, parks, hotels, etc. But always make sure to doublecheck if the places are still around because some of the information on those sites can be a little out dated.

www.yelp.com is another good site to find reviews for restaurants, etc. I usually filter my search to restaurants that have outdoor seating. I find that most places do allow your dog to sit outside with you as long as they are on a leash and well behaved.

Google maps has a function for you to create your own maps of areas. You can indicate every place you'd like to stop. Helps keep us very organized!

Where in FL are ya'll headed?
We're going to Sarasota to visit family and enjoy a much needed vacation!! :)
Fun! You should try to go to Fort de Soto dog beach. I think that like an hour drive from Sarasota.
We've taken our Corgi's up to Michigan and back. It's a lil over 10 hrs w/ the boys. They are very good. They like to sleep on the long trips, well except the older one. He will try to sneak up front numerous times. But I've noticed that rest stops are becoming more dog friendly. They have little potty areas and fenced in areas to run w/o leashes. I would suggest rest stops that have more than just a gas station or anything too close to the road. The dogs get distracted and can't 'go'.
The rides always are easier than expected. We always bring a portable water bowl. They won't drink as much water b/c they know they won't get out as much. I hope all goes well for you! I'm sure your pup will enjoy a new adventure and a fun new place to visit. If you're relaxed your dog will be too.
Oh they don't seem too fond of traffic tho! ;)
This is my experience with long corgi car rides as well. We made about a 15 hour trip from Florida to Chicago last year and we took Baxter who was 6 months old at the time. He basically slept the entire trip except when I would wake him up to take him out to potty. And then he'd usually be too distracted by trucks at the rest stop to even think about going to the bathroom.
If you have an iphone... there's a dog park app that will let you know the nearest dog friendly places while you drive..
I usually use way side rest stops, they are usually neat and clean and have doggie areas:) Sometimes we've checked out parks...all depends how/where you traveling and what your close to! have a great trip!
We usually look for the "full service" rest stop areas. Like Annie says, they all have areas designated for dog walking and yes, some even have fenced areas for running off leash. We usually try to stop every 3 - 4 hours on long road trips. We humans take turns watching our 2 corgis and using the rest room facilities too, which are usually much cleaner than the gas station facilities. So our "system" works like this. We look for the rest stop.... do the walking / stretching and other needs. Then we load up, head out and stop at the next gas station to top off the gas and then back on our way. We calculate it doesn't really add that much time to the total "stop time" and Soffie and Griffyn get a nice place to walk and we have access to clean rest rooms!!

Enjoy your trip! And your stay in Sarasota. We have not been there, but I hear Fort DeSoto has a fantastic Off Leash dog beach. Another great Off Leach Beach is in Venice, Florida too. Very clean and secure!!
