I would really rather supervise Jasper when he's chewing on stuff, but I feel bad when he's in his crate for a few hours with nothing to do. I was wondering if anyone knows of some safe chewy treats to leave to entertain him with him while I'm gone. I'm so paranoid about him choking on things when I'm not there. He's not really an aggressive chewer though, so I guess that's one less thing to worry about. I was thinking about starting to leave him a bully stick or something. Any suggestions?

I no longer have to crate my corgis but we do crate the Dobe. When we are leaving or if we have to put her in her crate, I put a little spray cheese in a kong and they all love it. Kongs are a safe chew toy(won't hurt the teeth) and they love the cheese. Be sure not to get a kong that is too small. When we start to get ready to leave at our house the corgis race into the kitchen to wait for their kongs and the Dobe jumps right in her crate to wait for it. I guess I should feel bad everyone is so happy to see me leave......
We leave Eddy with a large-sized dental nylabone, since they don't splinter or break, and too big for a corgi to swallow.
Honestly, I felt the same way about Bertie -- but I discovered, in his crate, he mostly slept and really the worry about boredom was all on my side. I've had a dog in the past who would shred everything in his crate -- now, he needed something to do! -- but if he's calm and cozy in there, he'll likely just snooze. I also agree that a Kong is a good way to go, if you really feel he needs something -- I used to freeze mine with peanut butter and a little canned food for B sometimes. Nowadays, I don't crate him -- and if I give him a cookie and leave, the cookie is sitting right where I left it -- he waits for me to come home before touching it! Go figure.
My guys each have nylabones to chew in the crate. They mostly sleep while crated but sometimes like to chew awhile when first going to bed.
Bertie ate his one and only nylabone. Ate it rather quickly, too. So I got him another, and he ignores it. Which is funny, he loves to chew and to eat. Ah well.
