shedding and paw licking

***UPDATE**

i took Baden in the vet today. hes very healthy so thats good news. but, hes having an allergic reaction to the season here in CA so he needs to be on benadril for a few weeks to help with the paw licking. as for shedding he needs more omega fats in his diet so is there a good product that any of u have had success with? or a natural way to get his omega fats?

i know corgis shed a lot but it seems like when ever i pet him clumps of hair just come out and i also noticed hes licking his paws an awful lot lately. maybe its the weather? or the food hes on? i currently feed him Kirkland lamb and rice dog food.

What kind of grass is the dog walking around on? Once I had a dog that was allergic to bermudagrass, the most common summer lawn here. It did cause itchy feet, and if she laid down in the grass, it would make her belly hair itch, too.

Can't hurt to try grain-free. Also, some dogs will develop allergies to specific meats, after being exposed to them for a long time. Did you know that beef is one of the most common allergens for dogs? Might be worth it to try switching to some other source of protein. I switch my dogs around -- chicken, beef, pork, turkey -- so as to minimize exposure to any one meat source for any length of time.

Recently, BTW, I found this rolled dog food by an outfit called FreshPet. It's located in a refrigerator section at PetSmart, and I've also seen it at Whole Foods and at Fry's. Looks kind of like liverwurst or sausage. You just slice off e measured amount (according to the dog's size and age). I cut it up into bite-sized pieces, although I suppose you could just plop the slice into the dog bowl and let the pooch have at it. It's made in America (!!), has no grain, and appears to be exactly equivalent to the home-cooked dog food I make plus a vitamin pill. And it offers a wide variety meats. Even bison, believe it or not.

They actually sent me a sample when they first started out. My dogs loved it and the ingredients were pretty good. We don't get it because the price is a bit high still hahah.

It's awfully expensive! And the price at Petsmart is the same as Whole Foods!!!

I cook Cassie's food (and will do the same for Ruby once she's off the special urinary diet), but recently I've been keeping a small roll of the stuff on hand to use in a pinch. I sure can't afford to feed either dog a full-time diet of this fancy stuff

There's a kibble by a manufacturer called Fromm that was recommended by a holistic vet. Pup really likes that stuff, and it has no truly suspect ingredients. It comes with a bunch of different meats, and to my surprise I found that switching those around (say turkey to beef to venison to salmon) did NOT cause any stomach upset. It also is grain-free, and it appears not to contain any bizarre chemicals, other than the usual array of vitamins. And, hallelujah! it's made in the USA.

im not sure what kind of grass is here lol but i do know theres a lot of fox tails around which the vet recommitted checking his toes everytime we come back from the park. he has been on call of the wild for about two weeks now and i must say i notice improvement in his fur already! i couldnt believe it. much softer and a lot less shedding than before but hes still licking his paws, thats a bummer
