Strange/Rude Things You Hear While Walking the Corgi(s)?

While out walking the dogs with my boyfriend's sister, the guy on the corner was out on his front lawn, and was clearly drunk. "Out walkin' the puppies, huh?" He slurred at us. We smiled and replied, "Yup." He was like "That sucks."

... what the... O=

Wasn't expecting that response at all LOL. I just replied with "That's alright, we like to go walking." and walked on as briskly as possible. It may have taken me a few extra seconds to respond, because I was so shocked someone would say that to some people who are clearly out enjoying their walk. Sigh... oh, those drunks... =u.u;=

Anyone else heard any offensive, crazy, or unexpected things while out walking with your dog(s)?

The only weird things I usually overhear people say about Frosty are discussions of what kind of dog mixed with what he must be to look like that.  Since he is blue merle, he must obviously be a sheltie/heeler/shephard/dachshund/bloodhound whatever.  I always just smile and say "no really, he is supposed to look like that".

The most popular question I get from people though is "Is that a welsh or a corgi?"  ((inner cringe))  Then depending on the time available and my assessment of the question asker's ability to listen, I either answer "both" and walk away or stop and explain about the 2 different breeds.

LOL!  I've gotten something similar to this.  I've been ask by people "Is he a welsh corgi or the other kind?"  But I always feel the need to explain in detail, so I end up standing there educating people.  Most of them seem to be happy to learn the details, while a couple look at me like I know too much, and why am I explaining this? XD

I think the "is he Welsh or corgi" comment is very common. Even my son got confused one time. When I answer people, I stumble around a bit to not sound snobbish. I'll say "she's a Pembroke, I mean Welsh Pembroke Corgi, there are also Welsh Cardigan corgis, with tails." It's nice to see their face light up with a oh, yeah that's what I meant to say.  One time I was at the pet store and a lady said her son was thinking of getting a corgi. I suggested he do his research first and listed off some of their less endearing traits. She was like OHHHH, yeah, that might not work. I've never heard a rude comment, but then we aren't out as often as we should be.

I`ve actually had to talk someone out of getting a corgi because they wanted one because they`re so obviously cute, but they lived in a little apartment and didn`t want a dog that barked or shed a lot, and worked 10-12 hour days. I really hope she didn`t go ahead and get one, because that dog would end up in a shelter within a couple of months.

The only strange thing I heard was one time, while walking Rocky, I had a guy come up to me and asked me what kind of dog Rocky is. When I told him he's a corgi, the guy kept insisting that Rocky is a Jack Russell Terrier!

The lady that runs our local Humane Society here in town came up to my husband at an event one day and said "My, that's a beautiful sheltie you have there!"

I`ve been asked what`s wrong with Sam`s legs. When I replied that there was nothing wrong, that he was a corgi and that all corgis have short legs, I was told quite frankly that obviously he wasn`t a corgi because he doesn`t look quite like most corgis, and that he must be a dwarfed dog of some other breed. The woman who said this was very rude about it and acted as though I was treating him cruelly because he has short legs and was wearing his backpack(it had a little fold-up bowl, a half empty water bottle, treats, and poopy bags, nothing heavy!). e ^ e;;;;;;

Last year at an art festival in town I had the dogs and both of them were wearing blinking lights on their collars so they wouldn't get stepped on after dark. Around dusk I turned the lights on and this woman got so mad that I had blinking lights on their collars that she came up to me and yelled at me about it as if I were abusing them.

Tonight, a funny thing happened that kind of pertains to this. I was taking our foster corgi for a walk around the block and forgot to bring the pick-up bags. Ollie went #2 in someone's yard, so I called my boyfriend and had him walk a bag down so that I could clean it up. He met us, picked up the mess, and we parted ways in separate directions. This woman across the street yells out to my boyfriend while her gigantic pitbull comes running across the street. I thought that she was yelling at her dog but my boyfriend told me that she was yelling accusations that him and I had just performed a drug deal. She then proceeded to tell him that is a parole officer and that she could get him in trouble. He yelled some profanities back at her and showed her the evidence of cleaning up a mess and went back home. HOW RUDE!

I also was walking the other day and this doxie mix came up to Juneau and I and the dog's owner goes, "tell that dog that you are more handsome than him!" People are ruthless!

The funniest thing we have heard was a little girl that said "Is that a hot dog dog?" before running over to pet them. I am always mystified at the people that complain about us walking by on the sidewalk carrying poop bags. I am careful not to allow peeing on plantings but seriously folks we live in a very wooded area backing up to a huge park with hiking trails,,,,did they think that animals were not going to go in their yards?? The majority of our comments are positive and I try to walk in the woods as much as possible but it is not always an option.

This little kid shouted at his mom sooo loudly "MOOOOMMMMM THE DOG WITH THE BIG EARS IS HERE!", ummm ok? They aren't THAT big ;) and another time two very very snobby looking girls asked "Is that your short dog...I was holding the leash and wanted to say something along the lines of DUH, when they asked "how much was it? I might get daddy to buy one." I Lo st my patience. I said "SHE. And I don't like to talk about it with people I don't know, how much was your weave?" She looked so shocked but really how insulting can you people be!?!?

I've heard: "Is she a sheltie mix?"  "I've never seen such a fluffy corgi (she's really not fluffy at all). "   "What's a corgi a mix of?"    "A yorkie? Corkie? What?"

I've never had any rude comments, but we have "stopped traffic" a few times when people stop their cars, roll down their windows, and ask me what kind of dog Emma is.  After I answer the next comment is (EVERY time) "she's so cute!"  I'm never quite sure what to say to that - it's not like I had anything to do with her cuteness other than keeping her healthy.  But I'll take credit for being smart enough to have a corgi!

There was one guy who said, "At least with those legs she can't ever get away from you!"  I smiled and nodded, but inside I was laughing - obviously he has NO idea.  She's made quite a few jaws drop at the dog park ("I can't believe how fast that short one is!")
