So today is Taz's third birthday! Yay for that. Can't believe it has been three years, and yet seems so much longer some days. While he was getting some birthday love today I notices that just slightly back from him front legs he has an odd size lump. I have not noticed this before. He is low man on the totem pole around here so he tends to get beat up a lot, but I haven't noticed any wounds down there. And there isn't really a lot of cheat grass around here now. Doesn't seem to have an opening anywhere from something getting in there. I would say it is located at the bottom of his sternum if he was a human. I don't know whether I should just call the vet in the nearest town, or take him over to the WSU Vet School. I took my horse there a couple of months ago and they were fabulous.
I feel sorry for my son, Taz is his dog, and he seems to have bad luck with pets. He sleeps with Taz and is about the only person that Taz actually listens too and minds.
Has anyone else had similiar issues? Is this a common thing in corgis? My breeder said she only had one other with a similiar thing and it was just a fatty cyst, no cancer or other complications from it.

Called the vet in the next town over, they seem to think that it is just a fatty cyst so he has an appointment for next week to draw some fluid and make sure that is all it is. If it is more complicated then I will probably take him to the vet school.
Laura-
Noodles has 2 fatty lumps. The first one he developed when he was only 4 and I thought he was too young for those. My parents miniature Schnauzer had them, so I wasn't too worried, but when my husband started getting nervous, I made a special appointment to take Noodles in. He did great having some of the fluid drawn out. The 2nd one (just noticed last year, he was 5.5 at that time) is located in between his front legs on his belly/chest bone. Again, it is another fatty lump, but this is the one I'm worried about because his harness goes right over the lump. If it gets too big, then we'll have to see about having it removed. The first one hasn't really grown in size and both my husband and I constantly touch both of them to see if they bother Noods or not. I love Noodles' vet and they always put my mind at ease. They tell me to continue touching them and if they start to change shapes or starts to feel lumpy, he needs to be brought in right away.
Gunny is now 7 years old and we first noticed a fatty tumor a couple years ago. Since then he has developed a few more. Our vet took fluid from a couple areas and all results came back as non threatening fatty tumors. I also have been wondering if it is something Corigs are prone to. I did start giving Gunny a skin and coat formula a couple years ago and he gets a tsp of that daily as well as a Dasuquin tab once a day. I wonder if those might be making him more prone to fatty tumors.
My Sophie had a fatty cyst that got slightly larger as time went on and vet said not to worry. It was on her underside chest area near her legs. Never caused any issues. She was a blessing in my life for 14yrs.
I'm glad you'll see your doc...you won't have to worry about it once you know what it is I hope!!
