Hi all,

Does anyone have experience with urinary incontinence in their dogs?

Since I adopted Zoey on August 8, she never once had an accident. About 3 weeks ago, she started having accidents in the house. She wouldn't sneak off or anything, she just seemed to do it wherever she was. I took her to the vet to see if she had an infection, but she didn't. Her urine had a little blood in in and the vet said that may have been caused by the way she obtained the sample. She was put on antibiotics for 10 days just to see if that helped anything. It didn't. Last Friday, we went back to the vet and took another sample. This one was perfect.. no problems whatsoever.

She suspects urinary incontinence and said that it was fairly common in spayed dogs. Zoey was just spayed at the end of August and she is only about 2-3 years old. We are trying her on a medicine that will help to "tighten up" all that urinary business.

Any other tips or pointers on things I can do to help her? The doc said the medicine can take a while to work, so I think I may go get her some diapers to wear around the house. I'm getting quite tired of cleaning up urine...

Thanks for any help.

Wow, I'm sorry, that's really awful.

I'm sure it's not too pleasant for Zoey either.

I would do the diaper thing for now I suppose.. It's just kind of what has to be done for a while.

Hope it all clears up soon!

Yes it is very common our doberman has it and has been taking the pills for years with no problems. I would tie her up in the house in an area that is easy to clean or put plastic table cloths down in an area with sheets over it. That is what I did and it really worked in just a few days.
There are natural suppliments on the market that does help.  I routinely give my two senior bladder care which I purchase from Jeffers Vet Supply.  You can purchase online, I just happen to be close enought that I can purchse in store.  It is less expensive through Jeffers than some of the mainstream pet supply stores.  It of course has cranberry powder in it as well as some other herbal remedies.  Good Luck!  ^,,^
