I'm sooooo sad to write this...
Our beautiful dog Guinness is causing me severe asthma and allergies. The cost of the medication alone for me is 400$ a month.
Guinness loves cuddles and long walks on the beach (literally). He loves kids (we have three under five). He also is very playful with other dogs.
The 'breeder' I got him from, in hindsight, isn't someone I would use again and so I don't want him to go back there.
I live near Vancouver, BC and I just want him to have a great life. I'd love for him to go straight into a new home and not to a kennel first.... This is Really Really hard... Any suggestions?

Dear Ellen,
I am so sorry you find yourself in this dilemma. I am in Portland,OR, and would take him in a heartbeat, but do not know the difficulties going across the border...do you have any information about this?
Best Wishes,
Linda (and Tomas)
Hi Linda, bringing a dog over from Canada is very easy, just make sure you have a canadian health cert from a vet, rabies shot records, all the papers and that's it. Here's the document. Page 10.
Sam, thankyou so much, I will download, and look in to this.
Linda
Thanks for all of your help everyone. I've been to the lung specialist and allergist and they both agree the dog is a large part of the problem. I clean like crazy and take him to the groomer every month (bathing at home with the kids is too much). I've installed a high end allergen air filter and I've finally found a diet fir him the keeps his weight in check and doesn't upset his stomach. The allergist suggested weekly shots, but honestly I'm hesitant to put anymore into my body.... And so we have, with heavy hearts, come to this decision. The good thing is that all of you are making me feel confident that we can put him with people that will love him like crazy... And what more could our little man or us ask for! I'll keep you posted...
Ellen, I wish you the best in this difficult decision. Please do keep me in mind, I am only a 5 hr drive away, and would be willing to drive up or meet you. My Tomas is 2 yrs + 4 mos old, loves playing with other dogs. Currently he has a cat to play with, and they do very well!
Best,
Linda
I would love to have him. How much is the cost to send him to the US, Cedar Rapids Iowa? I would be willing to split it with you if the cost wasn't too high...I can give you vet references. We live with a big back yard that's fenced in, have a female corgi and a female german shepherd mix--both get along very well with other dogs. My kids are 14 and 13....keep me in mind!
Hi again Ellen; how are you? Can you give us any updates? I'm very concerned about you and Guinness as are many others here.
I have nothing great to add but just wanted you to know that I am sorry you have to do this. I know it must have been a very difficult decision. You are to be commended for trying to find Guinness a good home. Hope it all works out and you feel better soon.
Hi, I am wonderining if you still have the corgi available. I llive in Abbotsford, bc and am looking for a dog for my mother, who recently lost her dog and is looking for another. Although she is 85 yrs. old, she is very active - gardens, walks every day. She lives in a nice neighbourhood in Salmon Arm, with a well-fenced yard.

We are dog people, ourselves, and have a very priviledged 3 yr. old lab. on our 5 acre hobby farm. With the uncertainty of owning a dog when one is 85, we would agree to take the dog into our home if the need arose.

Thanks for responding,

Janet Sweeney
