I made some friends through Facebook and reading through their comments was amazed at what they feed their corgis.  They break it all the way down to making greek yogurt from scratch, adding fresh fruit and honey to it.  Not knowing how to make greek yogurt, and surely not having the time am I being negligent just feeding my dogs dog food?  I do tend to feed them bottled water because our water gets nasty but is regular dog food okay.

Dogs can thrive on dry kibble, even the cheapest grocery store brands.  In my opinion, the food you feed your pets in personal choice and nothing more, unless there's a medical reason for a particular diet.  I feed both of my dogs Taste of the Wild, but Yuki was originally on Science Diet and did just fine.  I switched mainly because I wanted to eliminate grains from his diet.

There's nothing wrong with feeding kibble or wet or raw.  :)

Thanks - I was wondering if I had missed something that dog food was bad for corgis or something.  I usually feed them small kibble dry food mixed with a little wet depending on how they are using the bathroom.  My one corgi tends to get problem tummy all the time so we try to keep a lot of rice in hers to avoid a visit to the vet again.

Ditto to what Jen said!

There have been plenty of discussions about this on this site, too. It's like parenting human kids- some folks feel VERY VERY strongly about their specific method/plan/technique, and will come across. As trying to shame anyone who isn't doing what they do.

I doubt that many of us around here feed homemade yogurt.(but I'm sure the people who do are VERY proud of themselves for doing so.

You need to find what works for the health of your dog, your schedule and your wallet.

We feed Frosty Pedigree dog food and he is perfectly healthy.  What you feed your dog is just an opinion, just like what you feed yourself.  Everyone has a different point of view.  Here is a past discussion with links to some other past discussions about food and what people are feeding their corgis...

Regular dog food is probably fine,my two get a mix of a salmon potatoe kibble(no corn, wheat etc.),and an organic turkey & veggie mix roll.We feed this because one has a sensitive stomach, and it gives an excellent coat,my one concern is and always will be , the source of the ingredients!,the source and manufacturing plants are both here in Canada or the u.s.These are my own opinions ,love the bottled water thing,I have to do that during the spring melt here,'cause they have to chlorinate so heavy, plus it stinks.as for the yogurt thing, hmmm.sounds kinda more for the pretentious owner than the dog, cannot see a group of corgis at the park saying "hey let's go to yogun fruz and get us a little Greek yogurt with apple& pumpkin" they would much prefer to chase a squirrel, roll in goose scat ,lick pee, sniff each others bum, then roll endlessly in fresh mud, they are after all ,dogs, corgi dogs, love 'em,I love mine!

Yes, regular dog food is fine. There are many people on here that feed brands without by-products in them (I feed wellness), but the store brand stuff is fine (other may differ).  Most of my animals have been fed store brands previously, but there is some research that the better brands let the dogs live longer.  Personally, my healthiest dogs have been the mutts, and they've all eaten Purina, etc.

This week however, we are specializing in:

cow pies

rabbit legs

coyote poop

pond scum

mud

and whatever the dogs can find on our walk through the pastures.  Ah, the smell of spring.....

Love it!
It's amazing how, no matter how well fed they are, some other animal's poo is like Creme brûlée......
Crime de brûlée? Heck with that, the Canada geese have just returned to Sherwood park, yumm,Benson eats it Abbie rubs her face in it,welcome spring!!!guess I'll be bringing out the towels, poo eating oooooh, why doesn't the leave it command work now!!
It's a snack AND a facial!

LOL!!

Mine eat Iam's.  I've actually had people post things like "Iam's is ok if that's the best you can afford."   Ugh.  Yes, food is a religion to some people.  It's like trying to have spaghetti in the lunch room when half the people there are on Atkins.  Oh, the humanity!
