Ok so first Penny has the encounter with the toad. The other day she comes running up to the door with a dead bird...now yesterday she comes running up with a dead chipmunk! What the heck? Of course she is all proud..."look what I have mommy" and when I try to take it from her she thinks it is a game and runs with it! I don't know where she is finding these things...she is never really out of eye shot! What next a deer? LOL

Better a deer, than a skunk!!!! Considering how each thing seems to get bigger, that would be almost the next thing to bring in. I've been lucky so far, neither one of my dogs have brought me a present. Altough, I had a cat that would bring me birds, and not necessarily dead to give to me. That was always fun.....having a bird flying around the house, you chasing after the bird and your cat chasing after it also.
Been there done that (birds)...more than once...isn't nice to know we're part of their pride?
The other night she was out and I smelled a skunk...I got her in the house darn quick!
Could they have sprayed inseticides or pesticides anywhere near???
Not that I know of. We are in an outlying area and the only place she goes is to our house and the neighbors. Our neighbors have a Daushand and I know she kills baby rabbits every now and then...maybe she is the one killing them and Penny is just finding them.
that could be!
We have had lot of birds... mostly little finches, but I remember coming home one time and finding a huge crow laid out on the floor of the office. Disgusting. And Ginny was just so... proud, beaming up at me about her "kill." Gross.
Oh ...I can just imagine...but be glad she was proud and willing to share...the worst I ever had was a large rabbit on the floor by the chair that I always sit on under the dining room table...talk about gross...but then a crow would be about that size too...I blame the cat for the rabbit!
I don't mind so much that they find it, I just don't want them to "roll" in it :(
I agree with Sam! My Corgis don't bring me "fresh" kill -- they find the nastiest, decayed, smelliest gunk they can find to roll in, and then they come back all proud and happy -- LOL! For these "special times" I immediately take them to the nearest fresh water source, and get as much of it off as I can, we finish our walk, and once home they get thrown (not literally) in the tub for a bath in plain, straight tomato juice! That's the only thing I've found (and has been suggested to me several times) to remove skunk, and other wonderful aromas. I'm fortunate that they've never brought one back -- dead or alive -- but they have been sprayed several times!
