30 year old photo - Rookie, w. baby Lindsay

Rookie loved Lindsay and was always there protecting her. I can't imagine ever worrying about how Rookie would react to the birth of Lindsay, our first baby. I also can't imagine keeping them apart. Prior to our babies, Rookie was always with me. No matter how late I'd be up working, he'd be right there with his regal head on my foot. He was incensed when we came home with a new Corgi, Maggie. Maggie was 14 wks. and Rookie was 6 mo. He tried every which way to keep from entering a room. When she persevered, he pushed her into our pool. Eventually they became inseparable best friends. But, Maggie never was devoted to the babies like Rookie. Maybe Rookie just kept them to himself.

How do I ever get over losing my best friend? I had to make the awful decision to send her over The Bridge on Oct 10 2011. Still to this day I cry over losing her. I do have a new puppy coming Feb…Continue

Andrea, I am so sorry for your loss. Seeing him fail slowly must have been difficult but you were with him at the end and I am sure that helped. I don't think there is a good way to lose them!
Marion, I know what you are saying. They always seem to give me something to smile and look forward to. I have to be careful not to get too carried away in recommending a corgi to friends that are going through a tough time. I just do not know how you can live with one with out smiling and thinking about something besides yourself!

We lost the last of our dogs(Sammy) this past saturday. He had degenerative myelopathy. This time I was there til the end. It was one of the hardest things I can honestly say I have ever had to do! Deep down I know it was the best thing for him, but OH HOW I MISS HIM!!! Rest in peace Sammy. I LOVE YOU! You are with your brothers(Ricco and Kinny), mom(Molly) and dad(Biffy) now. I know you have your wings.... You will always be our little angel baby!

I know this site is about the loss of our cherished Corgis....but do want to add...that when I lost my husband....it is Sam and Merry who were and are my greatest comfort. They know when my heart is breaking and never fail to come and sit by me and let me know that I am not alone. I don't know what I would have done without them.

I found this recently and found it very touching.
Remember me always, but do not grieve for me too long. I have always tried to comfort you in times of sorrow, and have made every effort to add joy to your life. I never wanted to cause you pain.
Peace for me is certain now, and I suspect I will have eternal sleep in the earth I have loved so well.
Please after your period of grieving for me, make room in your heart for another. You are the kind of human being that should always have a friend like me to love. Your kind and gentle heart should not be wasted on my memory for too long. Give your love to another. I know your new friend will never take my place, because we had something special.
It may not be quite the same, but a new devoted and loving companion will in time become very special.
You loved me very much and I loved you. My spirit will always be with you, and no matter how deep my sleep, my grateful heart will always remember you.

If any one here is having difficulty dealing with the death of their pet this page may help, although MyCorgi was a complete comfort to me shortly after the loss of our dog. I think we all know many people, although they will politely or reluctantly offer a condolence just don't care or understand:

Hi to the memorial group; well, we rescued a kitten on Wednesday. She is marvelous; a 10 month old maine coon brown tabby who was slated for euthanasia by Animal Control in Red Deer (we're in Edmonton) but the attending vet couldn't do it so she called Whiskers Rescue and badda bing; now she's ours. We call her Chloe. I still miss my Yardley and Heidi sooo much, but Chloe is awesome, gentle, affectionate, sweeeeeeet and a whole brand new little soul to care for. It's true that a new addition is a good distraction. Someday we may add a dog.

What a talent you have for showing the expression of Ricco...I can see you painted with your heart.

Andrea, what a beautiful drawing. You captured Ricco perfectly. What a wonderful talent you have. And Romeo is a cutie and you did a great job with his painting also. I am sorry for your loss and happy for your gain...
