Well, Wendy:-) I have 4 pembrokes, and only one from the dark side LOLOLOL

And Laura, I just saw a video of Cardigans doing "nose work"  looks like a ton of fun to do with the dogs, and  corgis also do well in tracking, so  think they would excell in  police type nose work:) very agile as well:)

Welcome Laura...you got the best of 2 worlds!! I think you'll enjoy this little cartoon I have for people that like to go to the dark side as Shelley would say when someone goes for a Cardigan instead of having 2 Pembrokes. LOL

Welcome to the group, Colleen!

Bless you for the job you are doing with the kids! I don't know if I'd have the patience to do what you do.  Sadly, I have more patience with my corgis. LOL

Shorty's a cutie bug!!!

xoxo

Happy St. Patrick's Day...

Hello Peggie...here is a synopsis that John Wolff did on this network on DM

http://www.mycorgi.com/forum/topics/dm-research-how-you-can-help

I have a synopsis from Dr. Coates from the University of Missouri as well in my folders if you would like that one as well since it is more indepth on the disease and what is being done in the study in hopes to find for the future. You can also go to the Univ. of Missouri to learn all you need. I have the link on my website on the links page to learn more.

I work in advertising...every thing is due yesterday. And with technology changes as rapidly as the weather, stress is a daily visitor. When it gets unbearable, I log onto MyCorgi.com, look at the adorable photos, the precious faces of all your Corgis. I read about the love you have for them, and it fills me up! It gives me the energy to keep going. Thanks to each and every one of you two legged and four legged creatures!

Peggie was asking about DM. Since I was just reading about it again last night, hope no one minds if I chime in... DM stands for (canine) Degenerative Myelopathy. It is a chronic, progressive disease of the spinal cord in older dogs, usual onset being at 7 to 14 years of age. As of 2008, the mutated gene responsible has been found in 43 breeds, among them.. boxers, Rhodesian Ridgebacks, German Shepherds and Corgis. It has been compared to Lou Gehrig's disease in humans. OFA has a DNA test for it. Dogs are rated as clear, a carrier or affected. Clear or carriers do not develop DM. Affected dogs MIGHT develop it. As for how prevalent it is in corgis, I have never personally run across a case of it (thank the Lord!) but I'm sure Wendt Worth has more info and the info about a fund to study it. In general, it is a good thing to test for if you are breeding, (as well as eyes, Von Willebrand's and hips), so the precious pups we are responsible for bringing into the world will live long, happy, pain free lives. Anyway, hope that answers your basic question? Hi to everyone, hope you're enjoying your corgis as much as I enjoy mine! They're the BEST!
