i have to agree with you. some times it the shows we go to and not for the judges. when i was out in utah, there was a 4-day show up in idaho that we all went to because it was basically all of out last show weekend for the year. we all went and i don't think any of us really cared if we won or lost or who was judging. we all went because we knew we wouldn't see each other again until spring. it was more of a "party" weekend than anything else. when i see judges i don't know, i will always ask and see if anyone can give info. how are the babies????

I go both ways-judges vs show. I do have a few judges that I won't show too-rough, rude, have no concept of what they are doing, or even I know they don't like the style of dog that I might show to them. Then again, there are a few shows that I just love going to and don't care about the judges.

Puppies--yes most of the time I will take them to just about any judge other then the ones I know are rough with them or that won't look at a puppy no matter what.

hi all, shelley, you are talking about keke kahn. just typing her name makes my hands hurt. thise of us that have been around and showing for years are the way to learn your judges. i have actually seen judges that are very rough with pups just starting to show and has either caused the owner to put in mega work to get that dog over hte fear or they just give up. puppies need wonderful experiences to learn to enjoy showing. if they don't, kiss it good-bye. i wouldn't put a dead rat under that woman and a few others. why waste money to begin with. we all learn over time who's good and who's not and sometimes they surprise us. years back ,showed jack under a certain judge that even my handlers wouldn't show to. local show, right in my back yard so i took him. out of all the winnings available, ie.- bob, bow, winner's, reserve winner's, jack pulled a reserve. guess what???? he was the ONLY ONE that didn't have a certain kennel-breeder's name on him. all the other places had one name and one name only on them. so, that's like another judge i won't waste money on. another is mr. reynolds out of canada. a handler warned me that you can either do good under him or not so good, depending on "which mr. reynolds" show's up that day. in other words, he is very unpredictable and you never know what he's going to do. pete dawknins is another one. all of us that have been in this have judges we thank for saving us money because we won't show under them. and Candance--- so close to thanksgiving!!! i figure, if you fill him full (is that possible at his size?) on thanksgiving, he won't be able to drive down the road and maybe break down again. glad to hear things are going well for you. hope your wedding goes thru smoothly. then you can plan for your dog shows. i myself would take the shows over getting married. hehehehe. take care.

@Cindy,
actually I have only selected a show based on a particular judge once and that was only to elect not to show under her as everyone said she was horrific:( but I have elected to show by picking shows not necessarily judges when it comes time for starting pups.... I will keep my own notes as to how the judges was in a particular class/etc.. I think at the point I am at, after so many years since showing, and with a relatively new breed for me.. I will likely show under a variety of judges without much prior knowledge of the judge and see how the results vary among judges.. given a particular day and what dogs are entered, and as we progress I will begin to get a clearer idea of what judges are better at judging pems and a better idea of how mine stack up against the standard?
Some of you have been showing pems cardis a long time and know already what certain judges are looking for.. Until I have enough ring time with pemsand or cardis under my belt, I will just enter the shows that present enough of an entry to gain points if I win... and will continue to rely on the great advice of some great people willing to let me pick their brains!LOLOL Gotta find someone close enough to sponser for pwcca membership:(

Well since I moved the wedding up to Nov. 27 I think I'm going to scratch taking any dogs to Joplin. Too many other irons in the fire. I'd soooooo love to go though. Fiance has been stuck in Ohio for the past 4 days with a broken down truck and finally got back on the road this morning so when he does finally make it back, it's going to be a little busy getting him caught up on his side of the plans for a while. Went shopping with brides maids yesterday and got their dresses and lots of odd and end things, guest book, shoes for my dress, lots and lots of floral arrangment and ribbon stuff, etc. Dress is ordered, cake is ordered, invitations ordered, grand parents are donating one of the 3 hogs they butchered for the meal, dads work friend whose a good competition meat smoker is going to smoke the meat for us. I think all thats left is photographer and getting the tux's ordered and for the groom we need to get on that incase they need to special order for the rental. He's 7 ft tall sturdily built fella, they don't usually have his size just laying around.

Actually anyone who is a member of a club should be involved in the judges selectoin for your shows. Be objective, find judges that have a good all around knowledge, tend to look at the dog not the handler and don't just pick'em because they put your or your friend or a dog of your breeding up. There are some really great judges out there that aren't being used enough.

knew there was a reason I love ya Cindy ! that would be terrific!
Mika at vet getting hips done, and I have been a wreck... but vet just called and said hips look good, and he will go over films when I get there so relieved at this point!! YAYAYAYAYA
Also asked him to look at pelvic area for "tilt" and "spread" size, give me his opinion on ease of whelping to expect ... since she is on the smaller side in general..
so I go pick her up in an hour or so.. anxious to hear what he says...
one more step.... now dna's ....

Hum, well, humm, I do just happen to be on a show committee, well, I am the show chair. And well, humm, I am trying to get a supported pem and cardi entry at our LARGE 4 DAY show. So hum, well, I guess I could put her name in the hat.......... Let me see what I can do for ya'! I also know a lot of other show chairs and could ask and see what they might be able to do.

well then she will have to get her but out in the midwest and judge some shows:)))
I met her once... zillion years ago back east at a show when I was showing Akitas with an australian friend... she was outside and talking to someone and her southern accent caught my eye.. Didnt have corgis then , but had to comment on how cute they were:) She seemed a nice gal then, but only sopke to her very briefly.. Since then I have been reading a lot of the articles she writes.. I find her also a wealth of info!:) So am anxious to see the DVD.
Sounds very interesting.. I would love to pick her brains about sme of the dogs in Spunky's pedigree:)) If I get a pup to show from initial breeding , would love to show under her just to see what she thinks... time will tell:) Meantime maybe she will judge somewhere near us !
