eucaliptis(spelling is wrong) would work.we used that on males while showing so they didn't get the full whiff of any bitches in heat at the shows.

A little Vicks or vanilla on his nose will keep him for thinking she smells so good. Won't quit the behavior but can help.

it's a combo of everything.he won't starve himself to death. try some cooked chicken and rice. mac n' cheese, if your concerned. shouldn't be too much longer.hang in there

ok guys now not only do I have a naked dog( switched to tow food and finally got showstopper, but now with bitch in standing heat, he is refusing to eatARGGGGG Is it hormones??? have tried everything, even call in to vet... he hasnt eaten more than a tablespoon a day for three days!!! He is drinking and acting fine( all hormonal and pacing wanting the bitch) but otherwise acting fine just wont eat his rations...:(((((( should I be worried? or is this fairly common when bitch in heat. has also been brutally hot and humid here the last week..

That's why it's nice to have the college son still living at home. He's taking online classes this semester because what he needs to finish his degree isn't offered till after the first of the year. SOOOO---he gets the late night stuff!

She's been bagged down and milking for a week now-that's definately not a worry for me.

Candace, yeh bagging up and milk coming in ( when it does) is just another clue, I remember with our horses, we watched for bagging up more so than in dogs, seems they can have milk in sooner and still not go into labor, the dogs, but all i've worked with have begun labor real close to the temp drop and refusal to eat...
spose they are all different..
the horses once bagged up used to get a real "waxy" appearance to the teets and boy some mares after noticing that have dropped foals in the time it took me to feed to the other end of barn, come back and foal on ground... sheez....
but they only usually have one baby lol dogs have a few to expell poor things....
you know I was thinking , dogs make so little noise in labor, wonder if its as painful for them as it was for me???? I am not good with pain anyhow ROFLMAO!!

I take temp, whether it drops or not is just one more thing I use to help determine. Milk dropping is even less accurate, especially on a Corgi. I've had several in the past not even get a steady flow of milk until the 2nd or 3rd pup. My first one ever wound up having her first pup outside (good weather thankfully) because she didn't have milk in yet and let her out for a while and thought she won't have them soon, she doesn't have milk YEA RIGHT!!!! Most of the time, my temps drop though and my Pembrokes usually drag out 18 more hours before they start whelping. The minute the temp drops below the pivotal 99.0 mark, I take a nice 5 or 6 hour nap next to the whelping pen because it will probably be the last ounce of sleep I get once I get to the other side of that 18 hours and then the whelping and watching newborns.

Luck has it that my vet and I are on very good terms. I've only had to use the Emergency Clinic once and that was the litter that Russ was born in. Doc was on vacation, had another vet standing by to help but she had a case of parvo in the clinic the day before and refused to help(and I appreciated that). Emergency clinic here we come with an early Sunday morning c-section. $1800.00 later we had 6 puppies, aka the 6 pack.

2nd c-section I got Doc out of bed at 2am. I will never ever hear the end of that one. That was Frankie and Dove's litter.

Hoping this time it's just a nice easy whelp in the pool in the bathroom.
