Just added rePete's group photo to my page. It's not the best but it was hot, humid and severe storms with tons of wind--I look like I had been out in those storms--and I was!

Canadian titles are easy and fun!

I traveled up with a friend who has frenchies about 2 years ago. We went to the Thunderbay June shows. It's two shows a day for two days. 14 hour trip from Cedar Rapids. Russ got his Championship by the 3rd show of the weekend. Need only 10 points, but need a major win as well as competition We had four cardigans entered that weekend. He also got a group 2 up there.

Moose got his in a weekend the year before going up with Sheryl. I stayed home to whelp the litter that produced Russ. Moose finished by the 3rd show also, his sister finished too and Abbey got, I think 2 group placements that weekend.

It's fun and very laid back. Run a little differently then AKC shows but very similar.

Yes there are handlers that will take dogs up for you. BUT at the Thunderbay shows, there's a big pem entry and usually one of the top dogs in Canada is up there with a handler.

I recommend the Thunderbay shows--it's gorgeous up there and tons of fun. They also have a shorter show in July, the last weekend.

Contact the CKC and you can get a temporary listing number and show!

that kind of behavior might make me leary... even of a "well known" breeder.
Can't imagine why one would not answer such a question.. even just maybe to say they don't have an opinion at this time or something.. but to just discontinue all contact?? bizarre...

re: windials comment about conversation with well known pem breeder.. SEE? this is what needs to stop.. that breeder cut off discussion rather than hear you out and answer your questions.. rather than have a nice discussion she just cut off all communication.. that makes no sense to me.. It is just conversation and learning and knowledge is shared thru conversation.. I see no reason why two mature adults cannot have these conversations and exchange thoughts and opinions especially among same breed people! It would make a world of difference:)
And a spirited discussion never hurts either, gets brain cells working:)

WInd Dial, interesting question about canadian championships, just had this discussion with a friend.. I live very near two canadian borders so would be a very easy trip for me, about 90-100 miles fort francis, and probably 2 hours? from Thunderbay Ontario, north of Duluth , but dont know a thing about ckc rules and border crossings are a real pain now ..require a passport!! Mine has expired and would have to be renewed, and I don't know what the paperwork on the dogs would be to cross the border... more food for thought.. I also see a lot of "CAN-AM CH in pedigrees..

Here's a question for you all,,,,Canadian Championships on your dogs. I see some people that have Canadian Championships and wonder how they get those, especially people who live furthure south like I do and don't have quite the time to go buzzing to Canada a few times a year to title a dog. Are there handlers that work the Canadian area or do you actually just plan a trip to Canada? I have a few friends that have Canadian titled dogs so I could ask them but I will ask here too. I would love to go to Canada but it's just not in the cards right now.

Come to think of it, just remembered it but I had inquired to a fairly well known Pem. breeder about acquiring a dog and conversation and had started out well and things seemed to be progressing until..........I asked how she felt about DM and if she'd tested for it. Never heard from her again. I hadn't expressed whether or not I was for or against but had simply asked about it. I was just bringing it up as a topic of discussion, not really a requirement that I was seeking at the time. Apparently she didn't want to discuss it. She is looked up to by many so it surprised me the way she handled it. I wasn't concerned whether she did or didn't, just curious what she though since it's the buzz in the pembroke circles.

another thing that fascinates me is the DNA testing now said to be available to sort out what "muts" or mixed breeds are actually comprised of.. whether this is accurate or not is an interesting tidbit for people who adopt shelter dogs and have no idea really what they areLOL

and if you read as he carefully dicumented all litters and all details, even though he thought maybe some other fault or problem might surface such as was believed about the "bobtail" genes affect on puppy fade and death etc, he found no abnormalities in the cross that wasnt part of the original breed IE white boxers, possible deafness among white( but he had no pups born deaf) just fascinates me... not that I would ever attempt this kind of undertaking hahahahahahahahaha
