shelley, did you try calling me a few mintues ago??  the phone is in other room and i was ICK!!!!!!- writing out bills. how depressing. also am trying to warm up. doc took me off one pill (for now) and we are cutting the lipatore in half. out side of that, all doesn't look bad. lost 6lbs since october visit. now, if a whole bunch more would follow!!! i know this isn't corgi stuff- so i'll have to make it corgi stuff- ummmmm. when do we get to see another pic of the chipster??? and his partners in crime?  found out this morning i have a sock thief. turned out to be the joker. had to go on a search for them. he found it humerous.

good advice and i would also add,when you do go to a few shows to watch, not only watch your breed, go and check out how other breeds are handled and watch the judges. it won't take you long to figure out who the professional handlers are and who aren't. but, like with cindy's son, i got to watch him handle once at a UKC show and was very impressed. i would have no problem hiring him to handle my dog. there are many and if you do go to a show, BUY A CATALOG!!!!! then go and watch the whole corgi classes and mark down who wins. also, most professional handlers are listed on the dogs they are showing. if you get a chance, talk to a handler, but make sure they have the time. many of the handlers show a number of breeds and just because they are done in the corgi ring, doesn't mean they aren't heading straight over to another ring. bring your boy along, but don't bring him into the show. if you can talk to some of the corgi show people, ask them if they would be willing to take a look at your boy and maybe, if they have time, give you some pointers. here's a huge hint: don't try to ask much before they go into the ring. when we are waiting ringside to show, most of our brains and thought process are on the ring and the judging. most important though, is to have fun. if you do decide to finish your boy, remember this-they can feel how you feel through the lead. it can be a little stomach turning at first, but after a while, you adjust(ok, some of us do). i always found a drop of irish creme in my morning helped me relax. don't worry, i wasn't driving. another thought, see if there are any fun matches in your area. your local club/clubs should know. they are the "practice field" for newcomers and dogs that need a little extra experience. i know yours is alreadyy pointed, so you may have to go in for exhibition only, but you are really going in for your own learning. make sure you let them know that he is already pointed. sooo, have we got you all confused yet? if not, we can work at it. anyway, who is your boy out of? bloodlines, how old is he, any other dogs, etc.......... well, i'm going to go and somehow get warm. we have icky cold here today and even though i have been out of the cold for a couple of hours, i feel chilled to the bone. had drs. appt. this morning and the truck growled and tried to bite me when i had to start it to warm up this morning!! but it started no problem. take care and looking forward to hearing from you.

best piece of advice I have been given is  work to become a team with your dog... in and out of the ring... and in the ring, be as invisible as you can... you want the DOG to be looked at..... :))))))

so to that end we do a lot of practicing( DAILY) at home every day and we make our show  practice fun:)

you can also pull videos of the  westminister shows and eukanuba shows for breed ring and study each entry!!

well maybe I can add a little something.... if you are waffling... go attend a bunch of shows as a spectator!! and by all means  watch the handlers... and the judges and dogs,,, and go watch the jr handlers! amazing   these kids and their handling skills:)  you will begin to see little things.... then go home and practice... try out  some of the things you see with your dog and see how it "feels" have someone watch... and critique, or film ...

 but get out there it really is a ton of fun!!!!

Ashley, might get in touch with Greater Houston Corgis (http://www.ghpwcf.org/Greater_Houston_Pembroke_Welsh_Corgi_Fanciers...). The members will have some good experience, advice and could help point you to a trainer or a mentor in the area for tips on conformation handling. As Vicky recommended, check out a few shows, watch, ask questions, and take notes... We're newbies ourselves, started this past year and it's been fun... something new to learn. There's a lot of experience here at MyCorgi too.
