I usually wait till 3-4 weeks and then look at the ears. It was fun for me this time around to flip over puppies and not have a single one! I'm debating on getting the keepers dna'd this time around just so that I know as most of my line is carriers.

I compared them to Zarek's baby pictures to tell if it is a true sable as Zarek has the monks cap. Only one will keep it. Maggie had the masking as a puppy but no longer has most of that, so I am sure all the black masks will go away except the on puppy. Looks just like dad did. Fiona has thrown black brindles as sam is one. You can barely make out the brindling until you take a picture on that one. The girl I am not sure on but time will tell. I am trying the different techiniques next to check for fluffies. One is a camera trick and one is a finger trick. I want to test if it works.

Good weights. That's the size I prefer, not the monsters I end up with, eghads!
The black brindle actually looks to be a deep brown. More then likely will turn out like Fiona in coloring. True black brindles are few and far between, I can show you some pictures to compare them too. Abbey is a black brindle as well as two of the pups out of the dozen-Luna and Connor. The rest are just dark brown brindles. Well other then that evil Radar pup. In many breeds they actually call it a reverse brindle-boxers, danes are a couple.
Sables might turn to faded red/whites too. I don't have as much experience with that color though. It's actually very different from pemmies in that there is also some thought that the brindle modifiers can affect the coloring of the reds. Per Cathy O.C. true sables will have the monks cap and mask, while reds might have a black mask but not the monks cap.
It's so hard to tell true colors at this age though. Heck we though Walt was a black brindle till what, 4 weeks? He has almost none of the coloring at the base of his tail and his cheek patches didn't start coming in strong till 4 weeks. No red undercoat also makes it harded to tell.

@ Mike or Debbie- whoever is writing lol: am terrifically excited to be able to speak to Mt Mathiesen, as there is Nebriowa in my boys pedigree, top and bottom, a ways back , but am interested to know about closer generations and how they tie in:) It seems with all my studying of pedigrees there is much in the Nebriowa dogs and schaferhaus that that "attracts" me and see a lot of in mine... so excited to speak to him to see how the recent Nebriowa dogs and litters look and where his line has gone from the ones in Spunks pedigree to now sorta thing.. think there will be a lot to learn from this info:) and to see what he thinks about particular traits that come from these lines and the best way for me to go about keeping and bringing them forward. even correcting some things etc... in mine. fascinating stuff:) HALOOOO little HANK BOY!
I didnt realize till I called the first time they were in CA!! so it turns out it was 7:20 am!! OOPS and he was already gone to the show but think I may have woken partner up:) damn time difference LOLOL

Shelley: Didn't see Tim Matheisen at Riverside. There was a show outside Sacramento the same weekend in Dixon. I'd guess that's where Tim was, it's closer to him in the Bay area.
