About Me:
I work as a lobbyist-not a bad thing! LIve the rural life with Corgis, rescue dogs, horses, chickens, cats. Two beautiful grown daughters. If I had my choice I would quit my job, stay at the farm and raise corgis and horses!
Welsh Corgi Breeder?
No
About My Corgi(s):
We are honored by the presence of Lizzie (Q Lizzie Beth) and Fergie(FCF's Royal Ferguson) and Brodie (FCF's Little Bonanza Brodie). Recent additions to the family are Fern (puppy mill rescue and princess), Poppit (blind rescue), and accidental addition Sherman--my failure as a foster mom! Lizzie is our 7 year old Black-headed tri-color Corgi. True to the breed. It is like living with a cartoon charactor. Fergie is our three-year-old Red/White female and a real snuggle bug. Brodie is a black headed tri who is 1.5-years old. Fern is a 4-year-old red/white Corgi that was rescued from a puppy mill in January 2008 and was in Foster Care for six months! She has some special needs, but has adapted beautifully! She is quite the charmer. We celebrated her one year anniversary with us in May 09. Poppit has been with us for just a couple of months. She is a red-headed tri and she is completely blind-juvinile cataracts and small eyes--the result of poor breeding. We are working on her social skills and she is coming along. Sherman (formerly known as Denver) is a 15 month old red and white bundle of love and energy.
I have:
Pembroke

Hi Kristen. How was trip to DC? How fun! Miss doing stuff like that with my kids and classmates. How did you get into lobbying in the first place? So interesting to me. Weather here lovely, cool last week but ok with me, warming up and humid now. Roscoe is same old same old. Don't like his attitude at times, can't hold him sometimes and does not like to be held or feel confined, has his own mind. Vet told me corgis are like that. Wish I could afford to take him to a trainer. Don't know if it's his condition, male hormones (probably) or what? Penny's tail is now bald all along the top (icky like opposum!) She constantly " steals" whatever is left on counter, table. Got into my son's entire huge pack of Orbit gum and ate it all, whole bag of Twizzlers last nite! She can't get enough to eat or drink. Very clingy, especially since I've not been away for work. Aaron is one of 3 candidates up for job at Oakland University Police Dept. They came out to do a home visit last week and to meet the family. Very casual, lots of questions asked. How are your furry children? Brodie and Fern getting along okay? Take care. Penny

Hi, Kristen. Thanks for the welcome. So glad I found this group. Lots of really nice people, it seems. Yes, Corgis really were made for the farm life. Emmie loves it out here. And so do we!
  • Kim

he does well in the city. He gets lots of exercise running after four children. We are looking to get a girl corgi so cody can have someone his size to play with.
  • Patric Westmarc

The Fashion Relay was a blast. There were 4 teams of 5 corgettes each and a pile of toddler clothing in the middle of the arena. Team members raced to the middle one at a time and dressed their corgi. If you chose a shirt, you had to find the shorts to match. All legs had to be in the right holes and everything had to be all buttoned and zipped up. First team completely dressed and back to their corner won. Naturally, most of us went for the sundresses because they were the fastest things to get on the little furrballs. Dodger was so pretty in his little blue dress. Koda looked lovely in his yellow dress with blue butterflies, but that picture didn't come out for some reason. You should have been there!
  • Minna

Thx . Corgi isnt that common breed in Finland, but its getting abit more common every year. I have 4 CorgiĀ“s atm. 3 Cardigans and a pembroke. Your corgi has beatiful color :)

    This is a great site...

Wildlife bio....wow!!! Working with raptors to boot? Tooooo
cool. Weather weird here too past 2 months with lots of storms, power outs, etc. It's rumbling and flashing outside now. We need some more rain. Veggies plants are huge with lots of blossoms, yeah! We fed the deer over the winter, but stopped in spring, but they're helping themselves to my hosta! I hate it. They just walk right into the yard and get into bird feeders. I chopped up bar soap and scattered it around hostas that are left. Hope it smells strong enough to bother them. My friend puts peanut and pistachio shells around hers..seems to work. Our camera died but want to get another and get some new pics to post. Basically a formality, but Aaron probably has position with Oakland U. Has an interview tomorrow in a nearby town, but wants the university position. He and Jesi hope to get married next summer. I know this time was coming for all these years, but it's still strange to know your children are really leaving. Life is good though isn't it?
I've read Cushings Disease can last for a couple years. My friend recommended Nutro dog food (her dog was losing hair in gobs and it has helped him), but after hearing all the scares, we've stopped feeding it to them. What do you use, the same for all your dogs? Looked into Newman's Own Organics...wow is it expensive! I'd really like to know since I need to do something soon to change their food. Have a good 4th. Penny

Fern really loooked like she needed a loving home. It's great when everyone gets lucky in the end!
  • Cindi

Hi Kristen...we're doing well. Cody is looking great and gaining some muscle mass. The others are wonderful too. Thanks for asking. And you?
  • Sue Olson

I can't find your message now but when did your husband live in Ft. Dodge? Also, I think it is wonderful that you take in rescue dogs. I feel mine wasn't really a rescue but she was headed that way and I feel very fortunate. Now to clean up dog hair!
  • Kristen

Craig left Iowa when he was 12 so that would be 35 years ago! Ouch! He still has family near Manson and Claire (sp) When did you live there?
  • Gizmo

    Sa-wad-dee (Hello) Kristin,
Thank you! I will add you my first friend.
Gizmo doesn't feel good today, sneezing a lot, trouble breathing ;like stuffy nose. Walk around the house non stop unless put him in his house and close the door. He's not do exercise running back and fourth back from door to door (the longest distance in a house he found)
But he still eat, do his business normal. I will wait and see if he need to see veterinarian a bit. Oh, he got back from boarding a week ago.
  • Christopher Zincone & Monty!

    Hi Kristen!
Thanks for stopping by to watch our video. You have some really cute Corgi pups! I love the name theme too! I named Monty! after General Bernard Montgomery from WWII. Your discussions are though-provoking and I like your groups. Your pics are truly PRICELESS!
  • Violet

Oh my goodness does Violet look like Fergie! It's so neat!
  • Nicole

Pen is just a binky - 17 weeks as of this week
  • Cam

Thank you. So far Leon seems to be doing well. I'm almost having trouble keeping up, keeping him out of the cats food, away from the cat and off the stairs, and making sure he doesn't get in any more trouble. He's not too keen on the medications he has to take now or the dietary restrictions. But other than that he seems to be doing peachy.
  • Banjo and Starbuck

Your corgis look like they have the sweet life. I can tell they're loved!
  • Carlee

Thank you so much! Your corgi's are darling, you have some really great pictures in the slide show! Yes Tennessee is very pretty, much prettier than where I was living in California. It's great just to see plants and trees that weren't planted, lol! I bet it's gorgeous up in Nebraska, and you get lots of snow probably too? I am looking forward to winter! I love snow, only seen it a few times.
  • Fozzie Bear

    Aww, thank you. C:

Your Corgi crew is just adorable! 4 Corgis and a farm... you're living the dream. Fozzie wants to vaccation at your place and chase horses. Lols!

Fern is beautiful, and she's incredibly lucky to have you. She looks so happy.
  • Shannon

the corgi's will show at the Omaha show Sat. close to 11. The group they are with starts at 10:20 and the corgi's are the last of that group to go into the ring. On Sun Their groups goes in at 8am and the corgi's are the first to show
  • Carlee

Sounds like you should move over here to TN! Lol! Only kidding! I'm still getting used to it. I'm still learning the "terms" of the south. I often have to ask the boyfriend what on earth people are saying! It's fun though. Oh if you ever take up getting a Cardigan I know some great breeders to send you to! Pembies are great, I really love both Corgi's. I knew a bunch in California. Regis was the "odd ball" of the corgi group, lol!! I think I will always have Cardi's, but I think if I ever came across a Corgi in need of rescue, Cardi or not, I wouldn't turn her/him away. I read that you have a lot of animals, how fun! I have 4 cats now(rescued one yesterday!), but 3 are in Cali. I'm going to start getting them sent to me next month I'm hoping!
  • Shannon

we had our Ted E Bear there and our dachshund Jasmine
  • Luna

thank you so much. more pic's to come.
  • Samwise

Sam is very healthy now. He was treated with high dose steroids and tapered down. He is no longer on the steroids and no sign of the disease. We love our Sam!!
  • Julie

Thanks for the warm welcome. How many corgis do you have? I love your pictures they are so cute.
  • Rita

Kristen, Your little ones are adorable! Yes, I do have my hands full but I love it! We want a Corgi companion for Rustolia but we have to wait until we move. In the mean time we are concentrating on learning from her and training. Thank you so for the warm welcome.
  • penny spencer

Hi Kristen. Well, it's official, Aaron starts his job Aug. 5th and now the kids are looking at 2010 for wedding so they can save some. Want to buy a house too. So we may have him at home for some time to come. It's OK. He's a good kid. We were always close, so different when a girl's involved though. Emily in Fla would be hard but you now have some place to visit? Not the same when they go that far. That shouldn't be allowed. How's your retriever/lab girl doing? 2 homegrown tomaters, what would life be without them? I overplanted and with hot, humid weather, looks like a tomatoe, cuke, squash, pumpkin jungle out there! Should really pull some out, but there's hundreds of blossoms and little babies. Think I'll enlarge that area next year, ha! Still looking for employ. I'm so bored I've made a fairy garden and gnome forest in parts of my yard. They're cute but my family thinks I've lost some cells. Have you heard of Lakeshore Corgi Rescue in WI?
They had 12 rescues from Iowa I think and one little boy in MI up to adopt, but my computer won't let me reach them for info on him.
He's 9 mo. old so wonder why he's available. A breeder I spoke with said a neutered little male would be better company for Roscoe than a spayed female. Surprised at that. So if I can get thru to them we might drive out to see him this weekend. Can't believe my husband actually said he'd thought about "Chester'
all day yesterday at work! A breakthrough! Will keep you UTD
on this latest development. I'm excited. Take care. Keep cool.
  • Ziska Childs

Thanks for the kind words. She was such a sweetie, what a hole it leaves in our hearts.... but at least I have the 3 teenage doggies to distract me- not much time to think of things other than walkies and dinner :-)
  • Julie

Boomer is doing ok. She was spayed a week ago and since then she has completely gone backward in housetraining (she's 5 months old). Do you know if this is normal? I am hoping it is just a temporary setback.
  • Julie

Thanks for letting me know about the housebreaking, I feel better knowing it's a common thing. I learned one thing that has helped the cat chasing. The trainor I hired told me to growl at her and then either clap or make a loud noise. That apparently simulates how dogs correct each other. (first they growl, then snap). I thought it was crazy at first, but when she starts to chase a cat I just have to growl now and she stops. This however, does not stop my one cat from chasing her. : )
  • Bobbi Jo McClure

You have sooo many Corgis! They are all darling-especially Lizzie. She looks so wise. I'm glad you get a laugh out of my dog's name. We ride Harleys and have friends with Rotweilers named Harley. We love our little"legless" dog. I honestly don't know how we came up with his name. My husband will only call him Scooter in public but I call him my Baby Pants :)
  • Chuck Combs

Hello, thanks for the welcome :). I came up with the name Leela kinda of randomly then I added the Turanga on because of a character in a show I like is named Turanga Leela, kinda silly but it fits her good!
  • Shannon

    Hi Kristen,
Snowy and my wife were the 2nd Pembroke to go in. They were in different classes so they went one at a time. Then Snowy stayed in the ring to go against the first corgi and he beat him and got to go to best of breed later. That is when the specials go into the ring for the first time, but Snowy decided he didn't want to do it again. If you remember in the last round on dog coming in late then wanting to sit down while doing his walk, that was Snowy. For Sunday he walked better but got unsure when the judge appoarched him so she didn't get a good check of his teeth and the other male won. But the judge did tell us that once he gets over being alittle scared he is about perfect and will do great.
My really good news is that Buttercup and Snowy are expecting their first litter within a few weeks top.
  • Shannon

The special are just dogs that are already have their points and are champion so they don't have to go through the class show, they just go straight to best of breed.
It is looking like Snowy's next show might be in Kansas City next month. I have talked to a handler who is also showing his older brother Ike who is the number 3 corgi in the nation right now. She also has a girl from Snowy's litter. It's just real expensive so any money for the puppies will have to go to pay for the handler. Hopfully if Snowy goes with her he can get his 2 majors in before he will be back home, which should only be a month after he leaves.
  • Rita

As a matter of fact. We are looking for a larger apartment/house now. We are taking our time trying to find a rental that takes our animal children. I can truly see why it is so hard to have just one. Rustolia is training so well and the love, she is just wonderful. As a person who did not want a dog, I am truly taken away by how much I love her.
  • Phog's Mama

Thank you! Phog definatley keeps me on my toes. There are more breeders in Missouri than there are in Kansas. I was lucky though. When I started looking for breeders almost 7 years ago I found one in DeSoto Kansas which is only about 20 minutes from where I live.

You look like you have your hands full as well. Beautiful dogs and I am glad that Fern has fit in with your family so well. It is a wonderful thing you did to take her into your home.
  • Rita

We have no idea. The Vet says some kind of shepherd and possibly hound (because of the extra skin around her body). The one thing the vet is absolutely sure of is she IS more Corgi than anything else: Ears, Legs, Intelligence , personality & body vs. leg proportions. The Vet said we will see more as she grows up.
  • KaraP

Thanks!! They are a lot of fun, perfect cross between sweet and spunky, as you well know! Yours are really beautiful, such vibrant coats!
  • penny spencer

Hi Kristen. Well, finally reached the rescue group but Chester was adopted out. Good for him, sad for us. They have a female now but she's not social at all (hides from people). Roscoe needs someone more outgoing I think. HOT and humid here. Take care.
  • Katie

    Hi Kristen,

Love all of your critters! Fern looks so sad in the picture above- I am glad she is coming out of her shell. My friend took in a puppymill doxie and it took him some time to come out of his shell. Now he is so bonded to her and her family and doggie pack!
  • Katie

Aww! that is great news about Fern...it makes me happy! :)
  • Erica

Thanks! Your corgis are beautiful. Angel is a pem. She's my first corgi and you are definitely correct in your description of living with a cartoon character. Your farm looks beautiful... I tell my husband all the time that one day it'll just be me and him in the middle of nowhere with a herd of horses and a herd of corgis! =)
  • Charlie

What a wonderful time you must be having surrounded by all those wonderful "little people!" I know they are just like children to you because that's the way we feel about Claire. Since joining this site we have become soooo jealous of those of you with more than one Corgi. Even though we love our Scottie and Orange Tabby Cat, we've GOT to make room for another precious baby (...uh, I mean Corgi....oh, you know what I mean!).
