Hello!
I live in East Lansing, MI right now because I'm attending Michigan State University. I was wondering if anyone had a corgi near this area because I'd love for my little Chiba to socialize with other corgis. If so, please let me know!

You make great points Bella. It is a lot of work of say the least. I'm thinking of maybe not a puppy because that is tons of work with the potty training and chewing and biting, etc. lol. Mostly I'd like to get another one as a companion for Foxy. She just loves to play with other dogs and I feel bad that she doesn't have anyone other than us to play with. I think it would help wear her out, but then I think there's no guarantee she'll like the other dog. I'm in the same situation, my boyfriend and I live together but I do the caretaking mostly for Foxy. There are definite cons to it also. I am so busy with her at times I feel it wouldn't be fair to take time away from her to focus on a new dog and I also spend quite a bit of money on her between food, treats, toys, classes and to take on another dog would mean doubling the expenses. She is also very attached to me to say the least and I just don't know that she would like another dog invading her space with me and in the house. As much as I'd like to get another corgi, right now I think we'll just stick with her. Who knows what the future will bring. I couldn't ask for a better companion.
I'm so glad. Foxy is doing good too. She's very sweet and super cuddly, I'm so happy with way she turned out. She does have a lot of energy but she seems to know when to use it and when to be calm. We are in lots of dog sports/activities to keep her busy. I hope you are enjoying Ann Arbor. Do you think you'd ever get another corgi to keep Chiba company? I'd like to but my boyfriend says we need to wait lol.
Hi Bella! How are you and Chiba doing?
Welcome Bella and Chiba!
Congrats and "welcome".
Bella,
You can search most anything on this site and find info. Enjoy.
Hi Bella, (sorry this is long)
I have had many good mixed breed dogs in my life and only sorta new about the "Queen's" dogs. When I came to work in AL, I learned that a women at work bred corgis but I didn't pay attention because after all who needs a fancy breed????? You will find that they are very smart and often strong willed and then there is the shedding. In about 95, I needed to get a new dog as my older one was declining but decided that I had to limit the size as I aged. So I went to the dog breeder lady and said I wanted a dog but she didn't have any pems at the time and offered me a cardi that had been returned to her. She brought the cardi to me for a trial period but the dog had multiple problems because of abuse. The dog (Wendy) and I struggled together for over 13 years but it was a hard time. Later, I wanted another dog and inquired about a pem. Well, she had 2 unplanned litters with a whole bunch of fluffs for which there wasn't much of a market. Well, I took one of the little red and white fluffs. She was Miss Princess Sandy and the queen of my heart. I had never seen anything so adorable, charming or cute. Because the breeder had way too many puppies, I got her earlier than would normally be desirable but I also got laid off around that time so watching and playing with her was a most wonderful way of dealing with my frustration. The cardi (Wendy) and Sandy lived together for over 12 years and they had a wonderful relationship but Wendy was in charge. They both died in 2010 and I got Randy and you can see his pics and videos on this site. He was one of the biggest hand-fulls that I have ever seen but I love him dearly. He has stopped by to distract me. He is an alpha male and we struggled a lot over who was in charge when he was younger. He is a smart dog where as Sandy was a little 4 footed person. It is a good thing that I am retired because he needed a lot of attention but he did so many funny things that I had a ball while not struggling with him for control. I am a scientist but had not paid much attention to dog food until Wendy and Sandy were old and sickly. The one thing I would really recommend if you can get the time is to explore dog foods. I don't like the things with "chicken by products" in them as the by-products can be almost anything (except feet). I gave Randy Merrick's Puppy Plate dry puppy food and the Chicken Soup for Dog Lovers Soul puppy chow. Some dogs have allergies because of grain products in dog foods. One tip, you usually want the first material listed in the description to be meat. You will see the term meal and by-products. An exception is a diet that is for weight reduction. I use 2 foods now, one is Premium Edge Lamb, rice and vegetables (lamb is first item) and Chicken Soup adult "light". These are both made by Diamond ___ which has every kind of pet food from super cheap to expensive like Call of the Wild. The 2 I use are intermediate in price and quality. As they age, I may feel that I have to provide something better but I have started off with fairly good ones.
I can hardly believe that you have the energy to go to school, work and get a puppy but I can promise that Chiba will entertain you and love you and keep you entertained unless there is some serious problem!!!!
It is hot here in AL so MI sounds good. I attended grad school at MSU about 150 yrs ago and have fond memories of the place.
Good luck, Lois
Enjoy your baby. Keep your camera with you as you won't want to miss much.
