I am a children's book illustrator & designer. I hide my dogs in the illustrations of some of my books.
We live in the Sierras of Northern CA, surrounded by tree farms. Besides work & playing with my buddies, I hike, cycle, kayak, snow shoe, cross country ski, & open water swim. I take one of the dogs on my weekly painting expeditions.
We have an extensive organic garden (which my dogs steal veggies from!), & and ever expanding orchard.
PUPPY UPDATE: We will be keeping 2 of our six puppies: Winslow (red & white male) & Gunny (B&w tri male, the runt!). Poppy, the only female in the bunch, is happy in her new home on a ranch in Grass Valley. Enzo lives in Santa Rosa with his new buddy Kong.
We call all four puppies the Corgi Circus. They are so funny. Walking them is a challenge, 2 dogs per coupler, practicing for the Corgi Sled Dog Team!
Cosmo & Rusty will be attending the Sutter Auburn Faith Foundation's Faith & Fantasy Ball on the 13th of November. It's been a challenge finding homes for Rusty & Cosmo. I've turned 4 puppy mills in. One the owner was arrested. He had a 4 year old female who had 11 month old puppies, 2 year old puppies, & 3 year old pups. I'd rather not place them & keep them while I find the perfect families for them.
Our old guy, Stumpy is 15. He's a Corgi-Bulldog mix (Bullgi) we rescued. He likes to think he's a tough guy. We used to calll this the Miniature Rottie. He is retired from therapy work.
Ruby is now on sabatical in Santa Roasa while her family is re-settled.Ruby is also a rescue dog. We drove 600 miles to a Monster Rescue in Battle Mountain, NV. for her. (You can find them on petfinder.com. I've gotten 2 dogs from them, great people & great dogs!) She is the prefect therapy dog. She will crawl next to Hospice patients or seniors & just lay quietly with them. She also works with autistic kids. Even people who don't like dogs seem to love her.
Lucy is our newest addtition. Welsh Pembroke Tricolor Blue. She lives up to her namesake as a goofy redhead. Bit of an attitude, and very indepentdent compared to the other 2. I have to remind her that I'm the alpha bitch.
I write magazine articles (although not for a while now) mostly in horse magazines and was an assistant editor for a magazine. Then years as a public information officer and now, I'm working on a fiction piece. I am semi-retired. It is an interesting transition from non-fiction to fiction. Time will tell how this goes!!
It is fun to "meet" another corgi person who also is creative and illustrates books. Where can I find some of your illustrations?
Hi Laurie, I tried sending you b-day balloons but somehow they were sent to me instead of you. I wrote to Sam to see if he can correct it. But, I wanted you to know I was thinking of you and wishing you (or maybe one of dogs, wasn't sure whose b-day it was) a great day and a happy, healthy year.
Charm is just getting started. He's been riding with me on SAR call-outs for a while, but he's just getting used to being a "real" therapy dog. His visit to a children's cancer ward went well for him, not so much for the wife. He loves SAR calls, though. My beeper goes off and he's up and ready to go!
That picture is great! My dream was to be a children's book illustrator. I was an art major in college but life overtook me and I worked in the Insurance industry for many years before retiring. I am afraid I stopped doing any art work but the corgis are inspiring!
