Doris Daylily's Christmas lessons

Are we past the honeymoon yet? Heck, no! I still absolutely adore this puppy!

So, in keeping with the theme of my last blog post, I just wanted to list a few lessons that Doris has taught me through the holidays. They're good for anyone who, like me, hasn't had a dog in a few years.

1. The golden tulle and hand-beaded Christmas tree skirt isn't as necessary to the holiday decor as I thought. Doris thought it made a fine fire hydrant. Or stump. Or general, all-purpose… Continue

Doris Daylily at the start of her 6th day at home

When my sister Amy calls me, she always asks first about the puppy. I always reply, "She's completely perfect!" And she is. Doris is completely, totally, absolutely, perfectly perfect. Here are a few lessons I've learned in the last few days so I can catch up with Doris' perfection:

1. Doris doesn't have accidents. I do. I accidentally don't take her outside when she clearly tells me it's time to do so. That's not Doris' fault.

2. An empty paper towel roll is easily… Continue

All My Corgis, Part 5: Puppy! (And her name is....)

Here it is the Christmas season, and my credit union was inexplicably closed yesterday. Seriously. No warning. (Well, a little warning, but my husband forgot to mention it to me.)

So we were a little late leaving for Middle Tennessee, but we finally hit the road around noon. Longest trip ever! I thought we'd never get there! But we did get to Lookout Farms (who has just joined MyCorgi.com), and we did pick up our puppy.

OK, I'll be honest. I spent some time talking to and… Continue

All My Corgis, Part 4: Harry

Friday's weather forecast for Tennessee is mixed -- in the middle and upper elevations, there's supposed to be snow and wintery precip. Here in the valley of East Tennessee, we're supposed to get hardly any precip and not enough snow to stick. I have been praying for snow since, oh, 1997 or so. We don't get it here any more. Now I'm totally torn between wishing for snow and hoping it's all going away. I don't want anything to prevent me from driving west to pick up Puppy To Be Named… Continue

All My Corgis, Part 3: Taduh

Squee! Just talked to the breeder, and I can pick up Puppy To Be Named Later on Friday -- can't wait!!!

Ahem. Anyway, back to the story, which I'd better finish before I have a puppy to distract me --

After fabulous Sherry's last days, my family moved to Tennessee. I started a new school in a whole new state without the moral support of a dog. Y'know, looking back, I know that it was only about four months between Sherry's death and Taduh's introduction to our family, but… Continue

All My Corgis, Part 2: Sherry

My puppy's breeder keeps adding updated photos to her website, and now my little darling can be seen chowing down on a tiny stuffed cow toy. Awwwwwww! The herding instinct already in evidence!

So -- on with the tale, not to be confused with a tail, which, of course, Pembroke Welsh corgis don't have. Our second corgi was Merry Sherry, and truly, she was a great dog.

Sherry was an outdoor dog except for when she had puppies or when she was recovering from an injury. Yep. We… Continue

The back story, Pt. 1: Daisy

First of all, I am lovin' this site. I had no idea! I should've been here ages ago, but I have been between corgis. This MyCorgi thing rocks! Who's the genius behind it? Kudos, you!

Anyhoo, while I'm passing the time until our puppy is ready to come home, I thought I would pen my corgi history. It all started in 1968. I think. I'm not sure, because I wasn't cognizant at the time.

We lived in Social Circle, Georgia, and my parents were looking for a dog. Our last dog… Continue
