Broken Family: Week 4 & 5

Wow the last two weeks have gone by so fast! I think we're all getting the hang of the new routine and starting to move out of the test phase into settling in. These past two weeks we've had to tend to some minor injuries...

Last week at M's Dash's had a slight limp on his front left leg... most probably abrasions from walking around the city a lot more and his new morning run routine at M's. His nails were also getting worn down much faster too and bleeding slightly from the extra… Continue

Broken Family: Week 3

So the rest of the week went smashingly! No accidents or boredom incidents... though I did spy on Dash via webcam and found that he did whine a bit during the day. I also discovered that he howls! It made me feel really bad that he was so bored, but still managed to behave himself pretty well. So... I went ahead and ordered a doggy door inset for my sliding door to my small bedroom balcony. Excited to see how it turns out. :)

So Friday Dash came to work with me as usual. He ended up… Continue

Broken Family: Week 2.5

So week 2 went off without a hitch... Dash was super awesome uncrated at M's place. She's taking him on runs in the morning before work with a minimal load in his pack. He even made it through a whole day without incident when she couldn't break at lunch as planned!

So far this week, I've started to test out the same routine (minus the break at lunch) for him that M started (with the exception of coming to work with me on Fridays)... so as to transition him better and to try and keep… Continue

Broken Family: Week 1

My first week went off without a hitch... I actually discovered a few new bus routes we can take to minimize the load on my back when I was carrying Dash in his Sherpa in/out of the subway. It's actually pretty nice since I have to backtrack less, the timing is pretty similar to the subway, and he gets even more opportunities to hit the dog runs before and after my work. Having Dash on my own actually whipped me into better shape in terms of getting to work on time haha!

I handed off… Continue

Broken Family

I won't get into the personal details, but my girlfriend and I have decided to amicably end our relationship. We both love our little corgi, Dash, which we've had together for almost 2 years now and neither of us are willing to give him up completely. After a lot of talking things out we've decided to give joint custody a try... nothing formal that is, but Dash will be spending alternating weeks with each of us. Luckily we live in a city like NYC where the logistics aren't too hairy. Tomorrow… Continue

New York Dogswalk against cancer 2009!

Our story...

When we learned about this charity event we decided that although we couldn't donate bags of our own money... we could take the time and help spread the word and hopefully help pull in more than we could ever be able to give out of our own pockets. So we started a team "BklynK9", put together a flyer, posted them at dog runs around the city and in Brooklyn, sent out a few mass emails, blogged about it on MyCorgi.com, updated… Continue

Dash the boss no more

GROUND ZERO

Yesterday was our first training session with Dani Santanella of Urban K-9. We thought it went really really well, despite the frigid temperatures and lack of many "test dogs" to trigger Dash's aggressive on leash behavior. We'll be on top of Dash over the next two weeks implementing Dani's advice and hopefully we'll slowly start seeing some progress. Fingers… Continue
