Zorro is officially 11 weeks old as of yesterday! I cannot believe we've had him for four weeks already! He has definitely become a part of our little family and we couldn't be happier :) He's doing well so far and haven't had too many problems. However, there are a few I would love your advice on!
-What is the cheapest most effective way to remove urine from carpet? He has an accident if we are not on top of him 24/7, which happens about once a day. For some reason he prefers peeing on carpet over linoleum/hardwood any day. I know there are fancy cleaners you can purchase over the internet, but does anybody have any suggestions about household items working?
-He doesn't seem to like going on walks! When I take him out and he knows it's for a walk he just lays down and that's that. He'll roll around in the dirt and is not going anywhere. At first I figured this was due to his little puppy legs, nope. Soon as I would give in and turn around to head home he would be on his feet in a flash and sprinting for home! I don't want to drag him or sit there and call him for half an hour, but this is just not going to be acceptable when he's a full grown dog! What is the best way to keep him walking?
I'm sure there's more, but I can't think of anything off the top of my head. Right now he's being such a good boy and chewing on his rawhide on the couch next to me, but I know what trouble he is capable of! On a positive note, overall he is doing SO feel! He loves people and other dogs. Joe said he's afraid someone will steal him and Zorro will go with them happily haha. Of course we don't leave him in any situation where that is even remotely possible. We take him to the Farmers Market every Saturday and is getting to know some regulars. We also took him swimming last weekend which fun. He was a little wary of the water, but definitely wasn't scared. At one point he ran in the water, then realized he couldn't touch and you could just see in his eyes that he was thinking, "CRAP CRAP CRAP" and he turned around and doggy paddled back to shore.
I cannot believe how fast he is growing! When we got him he still looked like such a puppy, but already I can see the corgi features really starting to come out. It's a good thing corgis are so darn cute or else I would be missing the puppy stage, but I love his ears standing up and his long snout. He just has so much personality! Well I suppose, that's enough bragging about how adorable my dog is haha. Hope everyone had a great fourth of July!!

My dog is 10 weeks six days and I am right there with you Ashley.
1. I use Nature's Miracle...it really works well on carpet and deodorizes the smell. Tucker has held going potty up to 5hrs because of crate training; also I monitor his water intake. I make sure he doesn't get water past 2 or 3 hr before bedtime. Like you as well, I still have to watch him when I let him come into my living room....as soon as I start seeing him sniff aorund I scoop him up and outside we go.
2. Tucker does what your dog does too. At first he would turn into a stone and just plant himself on the concrete. I would have to literally pick him on (while on the leash LOL) and place him where he would need to go potty. The only motivator it seems to get him going is FOOD...I use positive reinforcement when he poops/pees outside. Every time I put him down outside I say "go potty" and he goes!!! Then I quickly reward him. This has worked for walking him on the leash as well... especially if I want him to go in MY DIRECTION not his lol. I use treats and sometimes I use tiny pieces of cheese; that motivates him to move like no other haha....it just takes patience which is trying at times, but they'll get there :).
Your little Zorro is so adorable! He looks a little like my Piper! I've only had mine for about 4 days now so i cant help you a whole lot with the walking issue or the other, but i WILL say that the hydrogen peroxide cleaning mixture works wonders!
1. I second Nature's Miracle. Our puppy has been without accidents for awhile and hasn't repeated accidents in the same spot when cleaned up with the stuff.
2. We have and still have the same problem. Encourage the best you can with treats, happy voices and running ahead (if necessary). It may take awhile.
It sounds just like my Chuckie! He loves dogs and people! He doesn't bark at them at all.
He's very dog-motivated, I've noticed. He'll play with me to a certain point but, with another dog, he would play constantly and almost non-stop. I was telling my sister that I think he sees me as his mom only, someone to provide the food, petting, babying, and love but, not as a playmate.
Yeah, the first 2 things Chuckie learned with me was the way back home and the words "Go Home". When he hears those words it's like manna from heaven. He takes off sprinting back home. He won't go past a certain point on our block even though he's been with us going on 2 months now and pulls back on his leash.
I'm just continuing to be consistent and keep on trying.
Hi Ashley, congrats on your new addition, read and reread the FAQ on potty training and clean up, you'll want to invest in 6 bottles of hydrogen peroxide and keep them at home at all times. You can make your own enzyme cleaner, google it, it's cheap but takes time, it'll save you a lot of money.
The best way to keep him walking is treats, high power treats, most corgis are very food motivated.
You want to use an enzymatic cleaner for the urine---Nature's Miracle is good. You can buy that in gallon jugs at a pet store.
OOOOH I love this...my Corgi "Billy" is 11 weeks old too! We can share advice as we learn :) Billy does the SAME thing on walks, he just can't grasp it....at one point he will just start RUNNNNNNNNNNING and i will run with him ...he then STOPS outta no where and I nearly break his neck.
