Wow-- hard to believe it's been a full month since we got Blaze!

We are LOVING him... no regrets whatsoever getting this little pooch.

He seems to be housebroken already! He knows to either jump up and down in my line of sight or come up and BARK in my face and I will get the hint and take him outside. When he does that-- he pees/poos right away! He is one smart litle bugger.

No other approach has worked for us with stopping his nipping/biting except... *drum roll please* the SPRAY BOTTLE (with water)! He HATES the spray bottle. Last night he bit my hand and I got the spray bottle ready-- he literally skip-hopped backwards and put his hand up! LOL It was the CUTEST thing I have ever seen. I think he's got it now. He didn't try to bite anybody this morning. So far, so good. We had a good hour of cuddle time last night, which has never happened-- he always ended up biting us on the arms/hands/feet and we would put him down and ignore him (approach didn't work).. so having a nice cuddle session with him was really, really great.

I do have a question about food, though. I've looked on the forums but I'm still not 100% confident I'm doing the right thing with his feeding schedule. I am transitioning him out of IAMS by mixing it with Canidae.. I'm down to 1/4 a cup of IAMS and 1 1/2 cups of Canidae. He loves it.

I only feed him that (approx 2 cups) once a day in the mornings. Is this enough? He seems awfully hungry in the evenings and I feel like I'm starving him, but the guidelines on the bags say 2 cups is enough for a 10 pound puppy that is fourteen weeks old. Help, you corgi gurus!!

I've always fed both dogs twice a day-just a lesser amount each time. I feed Gus about 3/4 cups of Canidae (just switched-he LOVES it!) in the morning and about 1/2 cup Canidae dry and 1/2 cup Wellness canned at night. I think twice a day is good-even if it's less each time. However, I'm not sure he would ever beg for food if it weren't for our other dog, Sandy, who can be quite demanding!

We feed our corgis 1 1/2 c. of Natural Balance each day. We recently switched from Bil-Jac to Natural Balance because our female catahoula and corgi Tank started having allergy problems. Tank has cleared up and Ayla is looking much better. Back to the subject at hand. Canidae is a great food. Good for you for switching! Sounds like you're doing great. With ours, they get fed once a day. However, since Cody (the 13 year old) needs feeding 2x a day, we're considering switching all the kids to the 2x schedule.

Our breeder told us to feed Kiwi, 1/3-1/2 cup twice a day. While she may seem a little hungry, we also don't want her to fall victim to obesity. She seems to do well with that breakdown b/c she gets to eat in the morning and the night. We do give her a nylabone at some point during the day so she can have a little snack. Our breeder has great information regarding corgi obesity, and feeding instructions on her website: www.honeyfoxcorgis.com
Hope this helps!

2 cups a day seems like a lot for such a young pup. keahi is 7 months old and he's at 3/4 cup in the morning and 3/4 cup in the evening. if we feed him more than that he leaves it alone. sometimes i feel like the recommended serving sizes listed on the bag are directed for larger dogs (even if it is a medium dog formula).

I fed Charlie 3x a day until he was 4 months, then switched to 2x a day. He'll be one year old this month, and I am considering the pros/cons of moving to 1x a day now. Puppies as young as Blaze probably should be fed either 2 or 3 meals. For quantity of food, if Blaze isn't looking too fat or too skinny, you're feeding the correct amount. : - )

Congrats on a successful and fun first month together. Keep up the good work!

I'm feeding Grover 3 times a day, a half a cup each time. But I'm about to switch to mornings and evenings. But I think it helps him not be such a whiney butt in the evenings to have a meal then.
Sounds like Blaze is doing awesome!! Corgis are just the smartest little dogs!! Way to go on the housebreaking!

You should probably feed him twice a day. Once a day feeding is for older dogs who are able to sustain themselves throughout the day. If he's eating a full 2cups every day I'll do 1cup in the morning and the other in the evening.
If 1cup in the morning is not enough for him, you can give him 1.5 then and .5 later. Or come home at lunch and give him a small lunch with bigger portions at breakfast and dinner.
Either way, if you portion out the food throughout the day he'll be less hungry.
