How heavy is your PWC? L'il Faye Valentine is 30.9 lbs. She is really chubz, but I heard somewhere that Corgis can be anywhere from 25-31 lbs. She's really heavy and too... rubenesque. She's 3yrs old and she used to be a breeder. That's not her ideal weight, right? I'm feeding her Canidae's Overweight & Senior Dogs formula just in case..

I trust what the vet told me. Last we had him in, Brodey weighed in at a whopping 42 lbs. The vet said on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being anorexic and 10 being obese), he is a 6 or 7. Basically, he is a bit overweight, but not obese. He has clearance for his undercarriage, but he is just a big guy. His front "brisket" is big, and he is wide-bodied. He may be short, but he is definitely NOT a little dog.

If you look down on your dog and see a waistline then whatever weight she's at is a good weight for her. We have our own herd of corgis and each one is a different weight because of their individuals builds. The waist on a dog is just before their flanks. Our corgis get between 3/4-cup and just over a cup per day depending on the corgi being fed. Hope this helps.

You can go to my partner Cindi's member page and see pictures of Moira when we first got her from The Haven (a no-kill rescue) and after she lost a bunch of weight. http://www.mycorgi.com/profile/cindi. Even for a large female PWC Moira was grossly obese at 48 +/- pounds. She is now down to a svelt 27 pounds. It took us about 6 - 8 months to get her weight down to where it should be.

Now instead of being miserable and just laying around she's our little Diva Doggie. :-D Hang in there.

Yep, just gonna echo what Sam, Sam, and Amy said, it's dependent on your individual dog. Just to comment on your original question, general breed guidelines say 20-25 lbs for females, 25-30 lbs for males. They come smaller of course, but a good number are indeed simply overweight. Corgi's as a breed are prone obesity, which can lead to back problems later in life. As the other said, consult your vet so you can address Faye specifically, rather than relying on general guidelines.

We just went to the vet for our annual check up Monday, Mocha is 6 and he's 24 lbs. Vienna is 5 and she's finally at 23. The vet was very happy because we've been working on her weight for more than a year, she used to be 30lbs :)

The proper weight can only be know as related to the size of a particular dog. You need to consider how much you are feeding her. Most recommendations on a bag of food are far too much for any corgi, especially one on a weight loss program. None of my adults get more that 1/2 cup twice daily to maintain a nice healthy weight. Remember to add exercise to her program. For appropriate weight one should learn to visualize and feel. Put your hands over her ribcage...you should easily be able to feel them. Should feel like their is a light quilt over them. Stand above her, is there a waist line? This is visually what you wish to achieve.
