Izzie's First Swim

I spent a good amount of time outside today with the pups. My dad put up the pool last weekend but we didn't really get to go in until today. We never tried putting Lily in the water but my dad was kind of anxious to see how Izzie would do in the water. I wish I would have brought my camera out! It was sooooo cute! Lily is too old now to shock her with putting her in the water, but Izzie was a little shocked too! I lifted Izzie to give to my dad who was in the pool and he dunked her lower body into the pool. He then put her in and she immediately started to doggie paddle. Well, weren't we glad that she didn't sink like a brick! She went immediately for me and the stairs. When my dad lifted her out, she kept paddling along in the air like she was still in the water! LOL When I took her out and put her back on the grass she kinda looked at me like "Uh... WHAT WAS THAT?!" She was in the water *maybe* about one minute. Not quite sure what she thought of it to tell you the truth. She probably thinks she took a bath. :-p She was really good about keeping her head above water and I don't think the top of her head got wet at all! Good puppy!

She doesn't seem scared to be around the pool, but then again she doesn't normally go around the pool since it is in the back yard and we let her out the front door. Maybe when it gets a little warmer around here we can go for round 2 in the pool and see how she does. ;-)

Comment by James on July 13, 2008 at 1:16am: My mutt does this whenever we pick him up anywhere near a big source of water. A pool could be 5 feet away and he starts paddling. Izzie did really well! Is she scared to be picked up around the pool now?

Comment by Lynn on July 12, 2008 at 10:02pm: haha cute story!! especially the part about her air-paddling. i wish i could set up a pool! toto was on a walk around our apartment's swimming pool once and all of a sudden he just jumped in! my bf (who was walking toto) was more shocked than toto!
