Chewing on Wood Corners and Other Bad Habits

Izzie seems to have developed a habit of chewing on the woodwork now. I give her so many options with toys to chew on, but it seems she gets bored of the toys and heads for the corners! Ahhhh! We sprayed the bitter apple on stuff but that doesn't seem to have stopped her. We don't know if the bitter apple spray is too old (almost a decade, from when we had Lily as a puppy) or it just doesn't bother her. Is there another way to stop her from chewing on the wood?? I guess we'll try and buy newer bitter apple spray, but it's those times when we turn our heads for a minute when she does something bad!

She's also doing something I was hoping would never happen. She seems to be sampling the products of her behind. -_- I caught her twice this evening trying to lick it like an ice cream cone and apparently while I was on a business trip my mom caught her eating it as well. EEEWWW!

And she ruined a nice Lenox lamp cord when she snuck into the living room and almost pulled it off the end table. ARGH! Such a sneaky little puppy! And I am the only one she listens to too...

As much as you will not wish to hear it this is all a very normal part of raising a pup. Most of us have to work which lends to lots of unsupervised time for our pups. You may consider investing in an x-pen to contain your pup to a place where she has a bit of space but no access to the baseboards. Make sure to secure the x-pen as it is not a stationary kennel. As for eating their waste while it seems disgusting to us it is pretty normal for a dog. There are products that can be added to their food to help diminish the behavior. There is no tried and true cure. Picking up the feces immediately is the only sure way to make sure they do not eat it.

Cruise does that too...the bitter apple stuff woks to some extend but I need to spray the areas daily. As to the sampling of poo...both Tiki and Cruise do that...however, I have started putting some pineapple in their food each meal and incidents of that have really slowed down.

Try sprinkling a little ceyenne pepper on the corners. That worked on a chair, for me ,with Kitty.
