Do your dogs have specific music preferences?

Whenever we picked up Izzie for the first time. I found that she was a lot quieter if we talked to her. Well, we couldn't talk all the time since it was a 2 hour drive back home, so we thought maybe music would calm her down. As soon as we put Enya on, she was quiet. If the music stopped, she started to whine again. Eventually, we had brought her up to the front and I held her to keep her company since she was so used to being with her litter mates all the time.

On subsequent trips, Izzie has always been in her kennel in the back seat so she is safe. I've noticed that she gets very yappy in the car. When we went to my cousins, even when I was sitting right next to her she got antsy. The only CD we had in the car at that time was a Jimmy Buffet CD! So we put that on and she immediately calmed down and laid down!

Later on, I took her to the vet and I tried a few other selections trying to figure out what type of music would calm her down. I wasn't sure if it was the beat, the singer, or other instruments. She didn't really like any of the "harder" music with lots of guitars and drums... however she seemed to like the new Madonna CD "Hard Candy" which has some beat to it. So, I am not quite sure what the pattern is! But, it is nice to know that there is a solution to her behavior. What a quirky pup! ;-)

Here's a web site for dog music... Going to try it on my rat terrier, he's horrible in the car. That is until he gets his morning walk...

Callie doesn't seem to mind not having music on in the car... she also doens't mind music in the car as long as it is not too loud. I haven't noticed if she perfers any specific genre. My old beagle loved Coheed and Cambria for some reason. Anytime it came on she would run to listen to it. She was quite a character.

All I know is when I sit down to play the piano Brody heads for the door to go outside. Guess that says something about my abilities as a pianist. (at least according to him)

Le-Le seems to like certain music more than others. Our beagles before loved Duane Eddy, surfer beat from the 60's. They would get very playful and of course vocal. Reminds me- I will have to find the CD and see if Le-Le likes it as much...

Didi tolerates my music in the car. I often get concerned that it's too loud for her when she puts her ears back and squints, so it's more an issue of volume control than genre.
Her breeder drove across Texas to bring all the puppies to their houses the weekend before christmas. From Dallas, to Austin, to Houston, to Bay Town. We were the Houston stop. She'd been in the car approx 10 hours. Ever since I've had her, her favorite music in the car are the sounds of the open road.
