Do animals remember things? Some people say that they don't. But if not how do they learn things, how do they know that we are their people? Well I for one believe they have a very good memory.

Last night my husband and I went to our son and his new wife's for dinner, we took Quin with us of course:) They have 2 cats, we have 2 cats as well, so Quin is very well acquainted to cats. Both of their cats lived with us before my son was married. One of them is a kitten which was from a litter of kittens that we had we also have a kitten from that same litter The kids were married shortly after the litter was old enough to leave and the cats went with them (thank goodness 4 cats was about 3 cats too many ha ha) So Quin doesn't know that cat as well but they have spent some time together and all was fine.

Well this is the real part of my story. Last night when we went over to my sons Quin didn't even want to go into the house. The cat was in front of the door and I had to pull her in. I couldn't figure out what was her deal. The cat was fine not puffed up or anything he obviously remembered Quin, but for some reason Quin was afraid of him. Then it dawned on me! (sorry my story has so many back stories) A few weeks ago we had gone to my sisters and she has 2 dogs and a cat with a litter of kittens. The kittens were in the wood pile, we were standing near the wood pile talking. My sisters cat came from around the corner of the house and started to run toward us, she took one look at Quin (a strange dog near her kittens) and jumped onto her face!!!! It scared the crap out of me. Quin is crying the cat is hissing and clawing and biting stuck to Quins face like on Aliens. It seemed longer than it was I am sure, but when it was over I checked Quin and she was fine maybe a tiny bit of blood on her ear! I couldn't believe it! but she stayed away from that momma cat the rest of the weekend. So that is the only thing I can think of is that she is just being cautious about strange cats now instead of being as trusting as she was. She remembered that momma cat attacking her. Poor baby.

Oh yes they remember stuff , i went through a cgc training class with Carly and she was scared stiff of this mean lady who used the choke chain on her.. Long story short we failed the class. Carly was 5monts old .. a few months  later we signed up again for cgc , this time clicker training , they told me that lady retired.... well  the mean lady showed up one night as a helper and when carly saw her she shut down strated pulling me toward the van and low and behold i looked over and ther was that woman!! As the night went on i tried to stay clear of her but Carly kept looking in her direction.. (poor girl.) Then a few weeks later when it was time to get tested, guess who shows up to be a judge? yep!!  Carly wouldnt do one thing i ask of  her she was so frightened..

ya it was just so weird to see her afraid of the cat last night when she was never afraid of them before, that is what lead to her being attacked in the first place she was so trusting and just touched noses with my sisters cat before all hell broke loose. I do remember when I was young we had a mamma cat that would swat our dog every time she passed her because she had messed with her kittens. they are very protective when they have young, most animals are:)

Could very likely be the bad experience. Poor baby, I would think it would be the experience and not a specific cat that she relates her fear too. Mine know which cats they can bother and which they can play with but Carma my younger cat will also let them know when they are crossing the line. Momma cat was just protecting her precious babes.Being cautious is not a bad thing but a smart thing.
