Does anyone have insights about preparing for our first overnight trip with Tegan? I found a wonderful hotel in Monterey that welcomes dogs, so we will be spending four days/three nights with Tegan in the hotel. We will be bringing all of the obvious things -- her crate, food & dishes, toys, bed, & the all important treats, but I'm sure people who've traveled with their corgi have had the "oh, I wish I'd brought/planned for...." moment. Any advice will be much appreciated!

Thank you so much everyone!! Fabulous ideas -- things I never would have thought of. Tegan will definitely bark at new mysterious noises like elevators, etc., and the pee pads/paper towels will now be packed with her "special" spray. And her vaccination records... duh... again I know we would have left home without them. Thanks again, and I hope to have some fabulous pictures to post of Tegan's Monterey adventure (ones where she isn't a red/sable blur) :)

Excellent suggestion about room location, Roger/Laurie!

Pretty much agree with everything Gromit and Doug wrote. Especially want to restate about either pee pads or paper towels because she will 'mark' her territory. My three corgi's travel well both in the car and at the hotel.

If at all possible ask for a room away from a stair case or elevator. Mine sometimes bark when they hear noises they don't know about. And yes......all those people to meet!!

Corgis seem to make good traveling companions. Mine have always enjoyed the ride and of course there are lots of new people to meet when you have a Corgi with you.

We always take along a roll of paper towels and some "piddle spray" in case of an accident in the car or hotel room.

Take Tegan's vaccination record. If there's an emergency you might need it either for a vet or for a boarding kennel should you have to suddenly board your dog due to a medical emergency.

Take Tegan out for a walk and find a relief spot as soon as you get to the hotel and then take her back there every couple of hours at first if you can.

Crate her if you leave her alone in the room; don't think she won't get into expensive or messy mischief in a strange situation.

Don't be surprised if she doesn't want to eat in strange surroundings, it's not unusual, even for a Corgi, to skip a meal when first traveling.

Have a great time in Monterey. We just returned from Pismo Beach and the coast is so nice compared to Arizona in June!
