Today for the 1st time is Oscar's 10 years & 9 months I noticed a look of frustration in his eyes!. He looked at me as if to say dad I'm not a puppy anymore! I'm near on 77 next Jan 4th!. He has always been a puppy in my eyes from the day I brought him home from the breeder he has changed my life I think for the better!. I thinks the roles have changed now it was if I was having a bad day this wet snout was always there licking his dads hand as if to say don't worry dad it will be okay. Now it's my time to get down on the floor with Oscar and reassure him that's it's going to be okay I'm here to look after you if your having a bad day!. I have to realize my Baby is not 12 weeks old anymore!. Don't get me wrong Oscar is in good health I just think he is coming to terms with his old age! not that he would admit to that!. One thing Oscar still does last thing at night he has a choice of sleeping in 2 rooms mine or Paul's well he always comes and checks on me he will come beside the bed I will feel his wet snout on my hand and he starts licking me and then he turns around I will hear him walking back to Paul's room I will hear him jump on his bed and he settles down to sleep!. When Paul is at the hospital on the night shift Oscar sleeps in my room on his bed but he still does his nightly ritual of checking that dad is okay before he goes to sleep!. I swear Oscar is human!. He is always there when I come home from Work with his stump going 100 to the dozen he has a smile that is infectious and a nature to go with it!. He does this sigh that makes you laugh he will sigh and stick his head on his front paws with this look that makes you get down on the floor with him then it's tummy rub time he loves this time!.
That why I always say cherish these times because that's what makes being a dog owner special!!!..

I loved this! My babies just turned 9, and although they still have lots of energy, I know that time is passing. It makes me so sad to think how fast time goes by! I cherish every moment I have with them, and I never miss a chance to give them hugs or kisses!
Max has slowed down some...he's 11 but I also think part of it is his neck. He seems to know what he can and can't do. I've noticed over the last 6 months that Katie is also slowing down a bit....she's 9. Both came to us as aldults, Max was 5 and Katie was 4.
Sometimes knowing that Max is getting up there scares the hell out of me. I love Katie but Max is my boy and there are times knowing that he doesn't have another 10 years or more makes me sick to my stomach.
Bless you for being such good fur parents.
Sweet. Oscar is blessed to have such caring owners. I think (as human beings) and most probably as our canine friends as well, we mellow as we age. Hopefully Oscar will be around many more years to be your very special companion.
