I've been down for about 3 days with the flu. The kick your butt 103 fever kind of flu and the best distraction from it all has been watching the reaction of Bear and Goldy.

Having always been intrigued by the stories of dogs sniffing out cancer and sensing seizures, I noticed the following things while I've been sick:

1. The higher my fever got, the closer my corgis got. The best way to describe it is that it seemed like they were trying to pull the fever out of me.

2. There is something different about our skin when we are sick, either that or they use their tongues like my mom used the back of her hand when I was little. I could be in bed with the chills - electric blanket and down duvet and Goldy would come over, lick my forehead once or twice and then curl up closer to me.

3. Bear, the male, seemed much more "concerned" - laying on the bed staring at me, not sleeping much. Goldy, the female, much more "nursy" - checking on me, licking me, sleeping on me.

I've looked around online for information, but I can't find anything.

Oh feel better! Sounds like Bear and Goldy are watching over you and sending that wonderful "corgi healing energy". When I had surgery on eye in September Sophie stayed on the end of my bed where she could keep a sharp eye out on me - she had a very concerned look on her face and I knew I was in good hands (oh paws i mean)!!!

Absolutely they know....When I had the stomach virus.....kinda like I have never had in my life......I was totally not able to leave the bathroom and (this is kinda yucky) when the need for the commode and trash bin subsided for a brief period (and I mean brief) I just laid on the bathroom floor on a bathmat and towel and wrapped up in towels, yeah I had fever to.....I was having a great time. Clearly to sick to think about germs... My two lay just a the threshold of the bathroom door and watched me lay in the floor. They eventually came in and sniffed around me like I was roadkill and went back to the threshold. When my husband made it home they went tearing down the hallway to "retrieve" him and brought him back to the bathroom. I think they all thought that I was dead! HAHAHAHAHAHA

Feel better! At least your corgis are looking out for you haha. I sprained my ankle pretty badly a week ago, and Chester wouldn't stop licking the swollen part. I know dogs lick cuts, but I didn't think he'd realize that my ankle was swollen.

I had viral meningitis once, and my corgi mix Dillon never left my side for 4 days. My husband had to literally drag him out of the bed to go to the bathroom, eat and drink. I don't remember much of it, but he said that Dillon was so concerned that he thought I was going to die...

They do know! I think they have a "sense" about this with humans and other animal as mine also seem to know when something is different with an anima also...maybe that herding instinct also carries through to being more aware????

I do believe they know. When I had a knee replacement. They would often lay by me, never hurting my leg, being very careful to not jump on me when jumping on the bed. Gunner is the more nursy kind, checking on us when we are with a cold or flu like illness. Got to love the nursing of our furry kids! Hope you feel better soon!

Could they just be reacting to you not following your normal routines by being in bed all day? I know Izzie gets in a funk if I change my daily routine up.

I feel on the sidewalk last week and scraped my knee all up. Once I got it all washed out and bandaged up, I decided to take a nap. When I woke up, I opened my eyes to Ella staring at me. She knew I was injured and never take naps, and was apparently waiting for me.
Dogs can definitely know when their humans don't feel good.

Nurse Rainy took care of my mom when she was very ill all last week. She would lay by her side, and when she would be asked to 'go and get papa,' she would get off the bed, walk down the hall, and bark for my dad. Oh yeah. They totally know.

My dogs have all been really good about staying close when I was sick or even just really upset. In August I got sick one night had severe chills, and all three dogs were on the bed with me cuddled as close as they could get to me. They are the same way with my kids when they don't feel good. Although it is more of an individual dog to kid thing then all the dogs at once like they do with me. Hope you are feeling better soon and I am glad you have such a great support system.
