We took KayCee in early this morning and it sounds like a few of you were on the right track. She has idiopathic facial paralysis. This basically just means there isn't a cause for it, it's just a weird happening.

She is on low-dose steroid for four weeks and an eye drop every 4 hours to keep her eye lubricated. We are going to wait and see if it resolves. If things improve, great. If not, we will look into a more extensive treatment, MRIs, CT scans, etc to see if there is an underlying tumor, infection, something else that is causing it.

I'll keep you all posted.

Just wondered how KayCee is doing.  My pembroke has just been diagnosed with same.  My vet is recommending a specialist with lots of expensive tests.  Did the steroids work?  Hope KayCee is doing much better by now.

Shiro sends KayCee his best wishes and puppy kisses. Hope she'll be better soon.

Good luck with KayCee. My neighbor still puts drops in her dogs eye but otherwise she is fine, just elderly.

Any chance she has had acepromazine lately? My girl Krumpet reacts with a slight paralysis. Quite an unusual reaction and my vet had never heard of it. Just a thought.

oh dear -- hope it resolves quickly and easily! Did they give you any idea of how long they'd wait before looking for other things? Keep us posted!
