We had a few days off from school and one of our friends is originally from Montana. We offered to drive her there to see her family if she wouldn't mind if we stayed with her for a couple nights. She was all for it. she loves sterling almost as much as we do, and wanted us to meet her gigantic Aussie Kelev.
The drive out there was awful. We were having a terrible snowstorm in MN and it added 3 hours to our trip. We saw so many vehicles in the ditch. It was a little scary. Luckily, sterling is a wonderful traveler and just napped in the back for the entire ride. After 15 hours in the car, we were very happy to finally reach our destination!
We stayed with our friend for 2 nights. We hiked both days with her, Kelev, and some of her friends. We also did a bunch of geocaching while we were out there. (If you don't know what that is and you like to hike around outside I suggest you check it out! We love it!! www.geocaching.com ) Sterling got to be off leash almost the entire time and he absolutely loved it. He responded very well to commands and his recall was fantastic. I was very proud of my little boy!
After a couple nights at our friend's place, we headed out to Homestake Pass near Butte. We rented a yurt here for 2 more nights and continued to hike around on the trails in the area. Again, sterling got to be off leash (this time without Kelev) and he continued to listen really well. He was so tired the first night, he passed out snoring as soon as we got back to the yurt.
All in all, it was a great trip. We were gone for 5 days and hiked many miles and found lots of geocaches. Sterling travelled and behaved really well. We all had a blast!

Btw, there are some pics on my page if you're interested. :)

Sounds like a great adventure...as for the snow...we had 25" in the last few weeks and so I know how that goes. I would love to sleep in a yurt although I have never been in one I have checked them out.

Other than the 15 hour trip in a blizzard it sounds like a fantastic time was had by all...2-legged and 4-legged.
