Hello -

I just wanted to see if anyone has any experience with urethral cancer in a spayed female.  We just found out on Saturday that Gracie has a tumor which will ultimately block her from being able to pee and there is nothing that can be done.  We do have her on an NSAID and are hoping this will shrink the tumor to give her longer.  I really have no idea how long she has with us - she is a healthy 11 year old and is not acting any different than she did 6 years ago....(except the frequent urination).  Any suggestions from anyone?

Yes, I got a second opinion over the weekend and was told it is a slow growing cancer but can be very painful so the important thing is to just keep an eye on her and monitor her urine output and pain.

I agree, Vicky.  I had thought the same thing.  That a second opinion might be in order for something so serious.  Usually vets will share test results so that a pet can be taken in for a second opinion through another vet.  My vet says that if a veterinarian resents having their information sent out for a second opinion, then they are likely not the vet to have caring for your pets..........

Terrible! Have you sought a second opinion?

Aw, I'm so sorry to hear that.   I don't know anything about that but I hope that the drugs give you some more quality time with your girl.

Yes, they said there is nothing that can be done, except the treatment with the NSAIDs to possibly shrink it to give more time.

I am assuming from your post that the tumor is inoperable.  So very sorry for both Gracie and for you.  She is beautiful.  So glad she has had eleven wonderful years with you.  Hopeful she will have much quality time with you as a result of the treatment.

I am so sorry to hear this news.  No experience here but prayers that the NSAIDs shrink the tumor and give you more quality time with Gracie.
