Breaders of tri-colored corgi's in Illinois/Indiana/Iowa ?

I'm looking for breeders of tri-colored corgis in the central u.s.  I want to find a breeder before the liter is born so I can request that my puppy NOT have his or her tail docked.  I LOVE THEIR TAILS!  I have found one in Franklin, IN...anyone know of any others?  Not going to pay more than $600 either.  The prices some people charge are ridiculous!  Anyway, any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Blessings,

I know this is from awhile ago, but I do breed black tri corgis and will keep tails on.  My two are part of our family and the puppies are family raised.  I'm in southern Illinois, if ever interested

I agree that's going to be a big undertaking. Any breeder who shows their dogs is going to dock all the puppies as it's impossible to tell which ones will be show quality at 3 days old. And a reputable breeder isn't going to let someone choose a puppy at that age because you can't tell what their personalities will be like.

I've seen a lot of people get puppies from E-Z Brook but I personally would be cautious. She says she health tests all her dogs but if you actually look up the dogs she is breeding, many of them aren't even listed on the ofa site. Have you ever considered a cardigan? I love both breeds but I don't know if I'd get another pem just because of how much I love Luke's tail...

I agree that the cost is quite staggering at times, but you also have to remember that you're not just buying a puppy from a breeder.  You're buying a puppy that has been lovingly cared for.  It costs the breeder money to have each puppy vet checked, wormed, vaccinated, fed, etc.  Not that there aren't pups like Chloe out there, too, but they're pretty hard to find.

Good luck in your search for a pup!  Like you said, you're luckily not in a hurry so you can take your time to find the right puppy from the right breeder.  :)

Jen & Yuki, my Chloe had her tail docked first and I found her when a breeder was phasing out and only paid $200. I know that's unheard of.  I have found a breeder who will set aside a puppy to NOT dock her tail in Indiana for me who charges $600.  She has some adorable tri's right now that already had their tails docked.

Not interested in a show or breeding myself.  Just want an adorable friend.  :)  Thanks for the suggestions.  I will check them all out!!!!  Thankfully I'm not in a hurry.  That'll help.

Blessings!

http://www.ezbrook.com/corgis.html doesn't dock but I don't see any girls on her page at this time.  Not sure if she's phasing out or what.

I'll be honest:  most show-bred Pems are over $1000, and even better backyard breeders frequently charge over $600.  And not a lot of people have tris (red is the dominant color).  And most breeders dock.

So to find an undocked tri for under $600 is a big undertaking.

Have you already checked through the breeders on PWCCA, the Gaitway Corgi Club, and the Lakeshore Corgi Club?  I know you were probably hoping for info from someone who had actually obtained a pup from a breeder there, but you might still find a breeder or two through the clubs that have pups or can guide you to someone that does.

And I agree with you on the tails.  I was sort of hoping my own pup would have a tail, but I didn't find mine until after it was off.  I guess there's always next time, though!  ;)
