Hey everyone. Milo's been doing great lately, as we're proud to announce, and is doing all he can to help us get ready for the move to Arizona!

The only problem he's been having lately is that he's getting sick and spitting up just enough to make me feel uncomfortable. Frequently it's just (and forgive me, i'm not trying to be gross, but as medically accurate as i can be) like spit; its clear and foamy. But occasionally he throws up his whole dinner or breakfast, and it's (again, sorry) only partly digested. Before or after throwing up, there's no change in his behavior. He doesn't behave like he's sick, he just throws up then walks away, like it was part of his routine. I haven't had him to the vet yet, because I'm not sure i can get an appointment for him before we move next week. I can't say how often per week it is, because it's realy something id prefer to not keep track of. No more than twice a week on average, let's say?

Am i dealing with a typical puppy stage, like how babies spit up on a pretty frequent basis? Or could this be a sign of some inner problems?

Thanks!

-Luke

Jack throws up every now and again. Sometimes he throws up his whole dinner, if it's been awhile since he's eaten he occasionally throws up just foam, and once he hacked up something awful he had eaten in the woods, along with his just-finished yogurt-topped supper. Now THAT was enough to make me gag.

But, it's not on a regular basis. Maybe a small handful of times a year.

Is there anything specific that happens before he upchucks? Is he running around like crazy? Can you trace it to something he might have gotten into, in the yard or on a walk?

You say it's happening twice a week. If it's twice a week for the past two weeks, and he's not losing weight or feverish, you might just wait and see if it passes. If it's twice a week for the past month, then you've got something more chronic and if it were me I'd want it checked out. Some dogs are just funny. We had a lab when I was a teenager that had a funny stomach and he would vomit on a semi-regular basis.

Thiago did this a few times when Hubby waited a little too long to mow the lawn. T was eating grass and giving him an upset tummy. Same-didnt act sick before or after. I assumed it was grass because I saw him eat it, but when he spit it up there wasnt grass just the foam. My sister in laws cats do that too and they eat grass outside like candy. I just tried to keep an eye on his poop, no runs, so i figured he was clear from stomach bugs and parasites. He hasnt eaten any grass since weve been keeping it neater and he hasnt done it agian.

Our little cat does that when she eats to fast. We have started spreading her soft treat all around her bowl so she can inhale it. We then wait half an hour before giving them their hard food. This has pretty much stopped it. We think she just eats to fast. If you notice him just inhaling his food, they do make dog bowls with pegs in the middle that makes them slow down when they eat.

Sorry, I usually can call my vet's office and get their advice on whether I have a emergency or can handle it at home.

usually foam indicates bile. That's usually NOT a great thing. An upset tummy can do this, though. Dakota threw up once like that- with the foam and all, but when I started more frequent feedings (same amount of food, spread out better) she didn't do it again. Perhaps that could help.

You also could just call the vet and get his/her take on it- even if you don't bring him in.

As I said in my post, I haven't been able to get him to a vet and I'm not sure I will be able to get him in before I move in a week.
