From your experiences, what is/are the best airline to ship your puppy?  I know the options are very limited as far as who accepts pets as cargo, but out of the few that do, I'd like to know who's the safest.  Also, if it's a connected flight, is there anything to worry about?  I would choose a direct flight, but the airport that my breeder lived near doesn't have ANY non-stop flights to NY!

I'm pretty sure I've seen criticism of almost all the airlines on here at one time or another.  I just happened to talk to my son who is a United pilot about it today.  He said that he had never witnessed any mistreatment and that in his experience, care is always taken to place them in the shade when waiting to be loaded.  He said he stops and talks to them.

My Ellie flew into NY state from Illinois and arrived via American Airlines.  There were quite a few furry little passengers who arrived on the same flight (including three adorable little kittens), and all seemed to come through just fine.  When we picked her up, we did so at the baggage claim area.  The staff brought all of the furry travelers in through a side door and kept them in the nicely air conditioned building rather than on the hot tarmac (this was during a rather hot July.)

That's good to know, I will check with delta as well.  The biggest issue is that the breeder isn't close to any major airport and that almost always = connected flight :(

I sent a message to the breeder asking if she maybe knows if any airlines do fly direct, by I doubt it.

I've read way too many horror stories online, but I guess I should stop because I'm just going to drive myself nuts for no reason :)

Congratulations on the new pup by the way!!

We just got a new pup Lily from a breeder in Minnesotat (we are in Seattle).  I was pretty concerned about the trip and how she would do.  The breeder shipped her on Delta Airlines.  We were lucky that she was on a direct flight and it lasted only about 3-4 hours.  She arrived in great shape - tired but not too stressed.  She took a day to get adjusted to being away from her mom and puppy siblings - a little quet --  and then was back to her puppy self.  I thought Delta did a great job. She came in on a passenger flight but they had us pick her up at the cargo facility.  There were staff who were watching the animals waiting to be picked up and they were very helpful.  Our experience was very good with them.
