Cats and puppies

Posted on February 4, 2014 at 11:30pm 3 Comments

If any of you had a cat before getting a corg pup, what was the method that you used to introduce the new puppy to the cat and what was the outcome like?
Our kitty Sushi is 12yo and has been around dogs before but it's been a couple of years since the last dog so we are very curious to see how she will react.

She has a vet appt set for one week before the dog arrives to make sure she's in perfect health as well as to file her nails.

Chosing airlines

From your experiences, what is/are the best airline to ship your puppy?  I know the options are very limited as far as who accepts pets as cargo, but out of the few that do, I'd like to know who's the safest.  Also, if it's a connected flight, is there anything to worry about?  I would choose a direct flight, but the airport that my breeder lived near doesn't have ANY non-stop flights to NY!

New puppy

Hi guys!

We are getting our first corgster in about 4 weeks! Any tips on welcoming him home for the first time to make him feel safe and comfortable?  He's being shipped by plane and it's a 5.5hr flight.

We've both had dogs in the past but it's been a while since having a young puppy.  I grew up around a lot of dogs and always read training tips, but would like to hear your stories from personal experiences!

Thank you for any help and advice you…

Congrats on your new Corgi pup! He is adorable!! You will love the breed. They are very smart, energetic and loyal! You'll find he will try to herd you if you don't have any cattle in the house.:). You are probably getting very anxious for his arrival, and it will be such a great feeling when he is finally "home".

no problem!, always glad to help!  Get a clicker and a jar pf peanut butter too! click training makes training easier and the peanut butter is easier, cheaper, and more delicious when giving rewards than giving treats from a bag

My 2 cents, as I did a lot of research on food, is to get Wellness or Blue Buffalo.  Iams and science Diet are low/mediocre foods.  Wellness and Blue Buffalo are expensive foods compared to the others but you pay for what you get, a healthy dog with a great coat.

True story, my friend in NJ has a Corgi, was feeding him Pedigree and Science Diet or whatever he was able to buy when he ran out of food.  His coat was rough and had a dull coloring to it.  But after we met and I told him to switch to Wellness, after a few months, his Corgi's fur started looking and feeling like my Corgi, soft and bright.

that is hilarious! I had the same items too when I was preparing Cori's arrival as well!  I also had a play pen too, basically 2 feet tall fence that made a 5x5 feet square so he had his own space when we left him home alone.

What food is the breeder feeding?

Have you already got a crate, pads, and kong ready?

Great choice on getting a Corgi, they're the best!  I hope our Corgis can meet one day since we live in the same area.  Any questions or concerns about your corgi please feel free to ask, I got Cori when he was 10 weeks old and drove to Delaware to get him, he's 5.5 yrs old now, best decision I've made.  I did a lot of research prior to getting him so am more than willing to pass on the knowledge =D
