Enough Fur to make another Dog / Yard Work

Oscar got a really good brushing last night and as I'm sure you all know the fur just never ends!!! I brushed him for about 30 minutes he loves it so it makes the process much easier. The pile of undercoat I had at the end of the grooming session made me laugh. I was sure I could make a small dog out of it all. I am sure Oscar is feeling much cooler now.

Yesterday he was outside with me for a few hours doing work in the yard. He was running through fresh cut grass and it turned his white legs bright green! It washed right out of course but I still found it so funny. He loves to help when I am raking up the grass. By help I mean run right through the pile, or role in the pile or my personal favorite grab a big chunk of grass in his mouth and then thrash it around and run off with it. I tell him no but I am laughing the whole time so of course he does not think he is doing anything wrong. The little bit of extra clean up is worth seeing him have such a good time.

I get at least a handful of fur (after I smush it all together intoa dense clump) a day with a deshedding tool. Going to slow down with the furminator as it is thinning his overcoat too ,so maybe use it every 2 or 3 days and a regular brush in between

Oh the fur, so much fur. I can so relate. Before we got Ella, she lived outside in a barn in the -20 Michigan winter weather. Needless to say, she built up one huge undercoat. Once she was in our warm house the clumps started showing up on the floor. For the first 3 months, I had to brush her daily with a de-shedding brush. I've taken at least several Ellas out of her coat. She is much cooler and happier now and about 10 lbs of fur lighter.
I've heard that to reduce the thickness of the undercoat you should put a sweater/coat type clothing on your dog when going outside during colder months. I have yet to try this, but was considering it for this coming fall/winter.
That grass scene of your guy in the yard must have been adorable. The white fur will pick up any kind of color. I ended up getting some of that "white dog" shampoo, since Ella white belly cleans the sidewalk.
