Yesterday, Isabella met my brother's yellow lab, Daisy and my parents' long-haired dachshund, Sophie. Both of them are 8-9 years old and already know each other. They both came over (at the same time!) to meet Isabella. Isabella did great! She and Daisy had a blast! It was so fun seeing her play with the "big dog". Daisy was really gentle and I think had great fun playing with a puppy. Sophie, on the other hand, wanted nothing to do with it! She wasn't socialized with other dogs as a pup and pretty much hid behind my parents. She was happy, her tail was wagging the whole time, but she didn't really know what to do. Whenever Daisy and Sophie are together, they pretty much just do their own thing. Isabella really wanted to play with Sophie and had fun herding her around the house! Hopefully Sophie will warm up to playing with her...All-in-all, the first doggy play date was a success!
On another note, this weekend Isabella learned how to jump up on the couch. This all happened with no encouragement...she just hopped right up. Nothing is safe now! We really try to monitor her activity because I do not want her jumping down and hurting herself. Sometimes she just flies right off, no warning. Not much I can do about that, but we try to not let her jump down. Now that she knows how to jump up, she thinks this is where she belongs. Every morning Isabella has about 15-20 minutes downstairs by herself (gated with access to kitchen and living room -- a large tiled area). One of my last blog posts I reported the damage she did by ripping up mail and bolting through the screen door...Now, today, when I get downstairs, guess where I find her? On the kitchen counter!!! She must have hopped from the loveseat to the counter. She was just sitting there looking all sweet and innocent while the cat was looking up at her. I freaked! Of course, she got frisky when she sensed my fear for her. She got up and started to move. I got to her before she could run or jump off (I'd hope she'd be smart enough not to fly off the counter, but who knows?). Just as I get to her I see she is eating something. Knowing she was busted, she opened her mouth right up and I pulled out a fully wrapped, soggy, grape Jolly Rancher candy. Yum! Everything else was in tact as far as I could tell. Thank goodness I found her when I did! It could have been much worse, I'm sure. Time to rearrange the furniture...
