I know I'm a worry wort, so I should have known it would all be OK. Lola came back Heartworm Negative! I almost cried harder in joy about that than I did when they were trying to take her blood. Took 3 syringes and both front legs to get it done.
We found out she DOES have Hook Worms, but that seems to be easy to treat. Three packets of medication over 3 days and then her heartworm/intestinal worm/flea preventative. All in all, a VERY healthy girl!
She has a small tumor on one of her back teats (she must have had multiple litters. The vet confirmed the "puppy mill" theory. That or she had a Whack-a-Doo owner who abused her and bred her... same thing in my book!). She's going in for a lumpectomy on the back teat, as well as microchipping and a dental cleaning while she's under on Friday. Then, she gets the cone of shame until she heals, and we should be good to go! I can't express how happy this makes me! The vet and her assistant have had the same reaction most have had (a corgi in Mid MO?!? Exciting! Apparently they're something of a rarity) which made us feel good. All in all, we're looking at just south of $600 for today's testing/checkup and everything next friday. Thank goodness for Care Credit! We can pay it off quickly, just not right out of pocket, and right this second. It'll be nice to have everything done. I'll post pictures to this later. Lola is one pooped doggy, so we're letting her rest before any more excitement. Now to buy her a howl-oween costume! Can't wait!
