Sky, my Mini Australian Shepherd, has a propensity for needing veterinary attention. If there is an illness to catch, a disease to inherit, or an injury to get, he is there. I affectionally call him my "lemon" dog because everything seems to go wrong with him.
Well, Friday was his 1st birthday so he decide to go big (Sky never does anything halfway!). I had 3 kids over for the evening and we were letting the dogs out before we went to dinner. We were all standing on the patio and I was showing them some of Sky's tricks. Long story short, I said "Bang," Sky played dead with the enthusiasm only an Aussie muster, and cracked his head HARD on the concrete. At first I laughed, but when he got up he was weaving around and then his back legs stopped functioning. He was dazed and confused and if he had been a person, I think he would have been asking where he was.
Needless to say, I got everyone piled into the car in record time and we were on our way to the animal ER. I called on the way so they had a room ready for me when I got there, which was nice, but we had to wait two and a half hours to see the doctor! That was really difficult with 3 young, bored, hungry kids!! By the time we saw the doctor, Sky was fine again and the vet only looked at him for 2-3 minutes, said he had a mild concussion, and sent us home. Basically, just like the people hospital!
Oh... I love my sweet lemon dog! If only he could appreciate everything I do for him! =)
