My Madison is 7 years old today!
This picture sums up Maddie. Always happy, always smiling. For Maddie, life is a game and she's ready to play.
She got a new frisbee and it was too dark and muddy and cold to play outside after work, but I locked Jack the Bully in his crate and threw it up and down the hall and she was so proud of herself! She never gets first shot at new toys because Jack takes them from her (she's a softee), so today for her special treat she got to be the only one playing. Jack barked the entire time and Maddie grinned with delight and flounced the frisbee back to me, front feet flinging forward with each joyous step. Hopefully tomorrow it will be nice enough for her to go run in the field with it, but for tonight the hallway was just fine with her.
She's my cuddler, the first furbaby to greet us when we come home from work, the one who comes upstairs and lays in the hallway a half hour before the alarm goes off so she can make sure she's there to say "Good Morning." She's my baby girl and I just love her to pieces.
Happy Birthday, sweet heart. We love you very much.

Belated happy b-day Maddie. You sure are a beauty! I'm sure you got lots of hugs and treats.
Funny coincidence, my English Springer's name is Jack. Although he is much bigger than Snickers, and male and older, she is DE BOSS. When we play with a rope they will both chase it and play tug and growl and have a good time, but if we play ball, he chases the ball and she herds him. She won't chase the ball if he is around, which is why the occasional ball game is one on one. You could try letting your Jack chase the ball first, so he is tired when Maddie gets a turn. Or have one person take Jack for a walk while Maddie gets some one on one time. I like to shake things up, as soon as they see a pattern in when we do something then they get real pushy and obnoxious about it, and my life is not regular enough to be able to do that. So they never know when the next fun will be or what it is. Except food- that is very regular, because I don't want to be responsible for their expiration due to the effects of an hour of starvation!
Snickmom, I was just telling my husband that I feel guilty for not doing this for Maddie more often. They thing is, I'll put Jack on a sit/stay and make him wait while I let Maddie take her turn with having toys thrown, but she is submissive to Jack and if he's around she frequently doesn't make it all the way to the toy even if he's sitting; I think she's waiting for him to come and run her down. Jack has WAY more drive than Maddie and takes his games very seriously. I try to respect the natural pack order so that Jack doesn't get resentful (because they get along great and I don't want to ruin that) but I don't think locking him up while I play with her once a week or so would hurt anything.
Happy Birthday Maddie! My dogs have to take turns chasing a rope ball down the hall. They love it. I try to get the ball all the way down to the bathroom so they skid on the tile (evil chuckle) fortunately for them I have a weak throwing arm. The one in the crate waiting his/her turn always cries for a while, then quiets somewhat. If they are too loud I throw a blanket over the door so they can't see! Maybe now your mom will let you have first shot at toys more often... good luck. :)
She is a gorgeous girl! Happy Birthday Maddie!!!
