Happy Birthday Jack!

I don't know where the years go, but my handsome little man turns 6 years old today.   Hard to believe how much one little dog can change your life.   Happy birthday sweetie.

Corgis Go Swimming Photo Diary

Lovely late summer day, my husband and I were both off work, so we took the Corgis swimming.  Or I should say we took Maddie swimming and Jack wading.   And thanks to my husband who forded a stream, crossed a sand bar, balanced on logs across a boggy bit, and waded up to his thighs to get a toy that floated away....…

Jack thinks I'm some sort of magician.

I make the dogs a scrambled egg several times a month, and Jack always gets very excited when he sees me making eggs.  (Maddie gets excited when we do anything, anywhere, at any time, so it's hard to see a change in her behavior).

Apparently, he associates the frying pan with the resulting egg dinner, rather than the carton of eggs.  Today I had one egg left that was hitting its expiration date, so I decided to cook it for the dogs.  Since I was not making any for us, I just…

My boy is 5 years old today!

Where do the years go?  My handsome boy is five years old today!   Happy birthday, sweet little man.  He's my dog of a lifetime and I absolutely adore the stubborn little thing.

Found a dead dog in our yard today :(

The following is a bit gruesome, so if you are sensitive to loss right now, perhaps you might want to skip this post....

So, I had just called in sick from work this morning with a cold when my phone rang.  Seemed strange at 7:30 am and I thought it might be work calling back for some reason, but it was my neighbor calling to say his wife had seen a dead dog at the bottom of our hill on her way out this morning.   They had seen the dog loose yesterday, but then…

Happy Birthday Maddie!

My Madison is 7 years old today!

This picture sums up Maddie.  Always happy, always smiling.  For Maddie, life is a game and she's ready to play.

She got a new frisbee and it was too dark and muddy and cold to play outside after work, but I locked Jack the Bully in his crate and threw it up and down the hall and she was so proud…

Corgi Sleigh!

Crate-trained kitty!

My husband snapped this with his phone, which is why it's fuzzy.

Maybe it's because we got her from PetSmart and she lived in a cage for awhile, but Boo just loves the dogs' crates, especially Jack's.  I sometimes lock her in when I do Jack's nails and she lays in there quietly and waits for her treat when we are all done.  But she…

Ahhh, the first snowfall of....er.... OCTOBER?????

I love a holiday storm.  Nothing like seeing a nice fluffy blanket of white to really show off people's Christmas... um, Halloween decorations.  'Tis the season, when everyone loves snow to put them in the mood for caroling...I mean, Trick or Treating.  The clean white ground really shows off the green and red wreaths on the door.  Make…

Autumn Woods Walk, photo diary

The weather has been AWFUL here in PA.   Wettest September ever, and we often have wet Septembers so that's saying a lot.   The leaves are turning and they'll be down before you know it.  So we squeezed in a walk in the deepening dusk on Jack's favorite trail today.  The Corgis are very lucky to live somewhere where they can walk in woods and fields every day.  Of course they just think it's normal.

These shots are all in the park right outside our door.  The fading light…

Corgi Outing!

It's not been a great summer for dog outings.  It's been very rainy here in Pennsylvania, and when it's not muddy it's hot.  For the first time in too long, we took the dogs hiking today.

We found a very nice wooded trail near a reservoir.

Say a prayer for the horses

This has nothing to do with Corgis, but I know we have some horse lovers here.

While I was on vacation last week, I got some horrible news in the form of an e-mail from a friend.

On Sunday July 24th, the stable where I used to ride as a teenager (two decades gone by now) caught fire and burned to the ground.

There were 29 horses in the barn when it caught fire (being a Sunday, there was no one there riding and being a hot summer day, the horses…

Chomper final update--- Good news!

I called the shelter yesterday to see if Chomper had been reclaimed by his owners, and he has!   So happy to hear this.  So I don't know if someone finally got one of my phone messages and didn't answer but just called the pound, if someone saw the ad I put in the paper, or they missed all of that and just called the pound and found him.  Hopefully he is now enjoying the royal treatment that he feels is his just due.  :)

Chomper update

Poor Chomper!  (By the way, that was the name on his tag).

Chomper is the Pomeranian my husband found loose late last night by our house.

http://www.mycorgi.com/profiles/blogs/found-one-chomper

What a sweet little guy who loves people and loves other dogs, but alas he is not crate trained and it turns out he's intact and quite the little marker.  My cat was miserable with him…

Found: One "Chomper"

NOT what I needed at 10:30 on a worknight.

My husband took the Corgis out for a last pee at about 10:30 and up trotted a Pomeranian, loose, wearing a collar and tags.

Bad news is, the phone number is hand-written and we can't make out the last two digits.

Worse news is, Chomper is in an ex-pen in my kitchen and appears to bark like mad whenever I leave the room.  I can hardly blame him!  I'd be scared too.  And Chomper's barking makes the…

Happy Birthday, my sweet boy

Hard to believe, but Jack turns 4 on Saturday, April 30th.

My bratty, bossy, shark of a puppy has grown into my second-in-command, and he knows it.  He's the house-guarder and schedule-keeper, finder of lost toys and keeper of the peace, inventor of games and official greeter.

And so a happy, happy birthday to Jack, the bestest dog anyone could hope to have!  He'll have scrambled eggs at breakfast and sardines at dinner, and a brand new fluffy toy to shred…

Maddie's first therapy visit

Maddie passed her therapy dog test in September of last year, but our first visit was today.  When she went for the vet paperwork to get her final certification, her stool sample was positive for coccidia.  The vet said it rarely causes illness in adults and not treating was an acceptable option, but he could not sign off on a clear fecal when, frankly, the fecal wasn't clear.  So I sighed and gave her a round of Albon (it's only a few bucks, but I do hate treating when a dog is not sick.…

Pet Peeve for the day: Not all short-legged mongrels are "part Corgi"

Periodically, I check Petfinder to see if there are any Corgis in kill shelters in my area.  I am happy to report that in several years of looking, I have not seen any.  I have seen some puppy-mill rescues or owner surrenders in no-kill shelters within a few hundred miles of here, but that's about it.

I do see a TON of "Corgi mixes."

There are almost no Corgi breeders anywhere near me, and all the pets I've ever met (there aren't many) are neutered.  In other…

Christmas Eve, Corgie Style! Photo diary.

The dogs got one of their Christmas presents early so they could enjoy a good run with their new frisbee (the pink one) in a deserted park.

Jack looks like a puppy in this one.

Finally found something Jack is afraid of: Santa!

Ah, well, everybody's got to be afraid of something.

As many of you know, Jack is my stubborn and bossy, brave and loyal three-and-a-half year old Pem. He's a bold little guy, and from the time he was a puppy he would run barking towards anything that might be alarming. Quick to be on guard, he'll bark and growl fiercely at the door if anyone dares walk by the house in the middle of the night.

He's a therapy dog and he's everybody's friend. Everybody's, that is, except for… Continue
