I make the dogs a scrambled egg several times a month, and Jack always gets very excited when he sees me making eggs. (Maddie gets excited when we do anything, anywhere, at any time, so it's hard to see a change in her behavior).
Apparently, he associates the frying pan with the resulting egg dinner, rather than the carton of eggs. Today I had one egg left that was hitting its expiration date, so I decided to cook it for the dogs. Since I was not making any for us, I just put it in the microwave. I never cook eggs that way.
Well, he was oblivious while I cracked the egg, whisked the egg, and microwaved the egg.
When it was done, I set it on the counter to cool. He was wandering calmly around the kitchen when I saw his nose start to twitch. He sniffed the air, looked around, then looked at me with an expression that clearly said "EGGS! There are EGGS! How did you manage such a thing!!"
I suppose he doesn't pay attention to the carton because we use eggs for baking and cooking and he never gets one then, only when we fry them.
As far as he's concerned, I produced one out of thin air. Silly pups.

I love watching the nose twitch! My Bruce does it at every meal time. It's like he's deciding if what we are eating is worth begging for. The answer is inevitably "yes"
I have wondered what dogs think about the fact that we can deliver food regularly to them!! That alone gives us an edge in the Alpha Dog position...
Hahaha, that is so cute. :-D I had no idea that dogs could like cooked eggs to that extent!
