So, yesterday me and my boyfriend were going to do laundry. The laundry mat right up the road from us was packed so we decided that we would go to the one in the next town over and try that one. As we were driving through town, (which is very small) there was a little Jack Russell running through the road. I'm so proud of my boyfriend because I think I have been rubbing off on him. Before I could even say anything, he asked if we should pick it up. I pulled into the gas station where she ran and I asked a guy if it was his dog. He said no, so we picked her up, she was a little older but so sweet and very docile. I called my vet which is located just down the road and asked if I could bring her there to see if they recognized her because she had no collar. She had to be someone's pet and they called around to all their Jack Russell owners and no luck. I didn't want to see her go to the shelter but I knew nothing about her and I was leaving last night to go to a motocross show and wasn't sure how long we'd be gone. So what was I going to do? Everyone at my vet's is so sweet and my favorite girl says that her boyfriend works at the shelter and that she will keep me updated! I'm very happy and I guess Jack Russell's go quickly. I'm very happy. If she stays in there too long, I will probably go get her and Scott wanted to keep her. I dunno, just breaks my heart. I'm just glad she didn't get hit by a car!

Having found several dogs in my life that were returned to owners, and rescued three cats that we either kept or found homes for, I know how you feel! It was kind of you to stop and make the effort to find the owners. Russells are quick and if they are after something alive they can get pretty far in a hurry, so hopefully her grateful owner will show up.

It also just reminded me of this one time when I was 19, I was on the way to my mom's house on a back country road. I saw this guy in a truck scoping something out in the ditch. He drove off as I slowed down. I got out and it was a baby deer. I was so amazed. It was so beautiful and so scared. It had a broken leg. I called my mom and the guy came driving by again, a hunter, I got mad and gave him a piece of my mind and told him where to go. I was determined to save this animal! I talked to it for a minute really calmly and got a little closer and it seemed very calm. I touched it. One of the most amazing times in my life. It didn't struggle or run away but it must have just been hit because it was still active and aware of what was going on. I was petting it and when my mom and aunt showed up my aunt told me there was nothing we could do and we should let the guy put it out of it's misery. I was so mad and so sad that I cried and left. I understand that there was really nothing we could have done but I wanted to save it so badly. That was one of the coolest and saddest days of my life!

Ya know, when it comes to animals, I'm a sucker. I just can't say no. I wanted to keep her and make sure she found a home but like I said, what would I have done with her while we went to the motocross show? I felt bad but I also felt like that was the best decision. The shelter she went to is also a no kill shelter and she is so sweet, I'm sure she will have no problem finding a forever home. I can't even count how many times I've picked animals up. lol There was a black cat that showed up at my work in the dead of winter with missing hair and starving. Found him a wonderful woman to live with. I rescued a beagle who was almost hit by a car right in front of my eyes RIGHT after I lost Pooh. He had tags on and we found his family in a matter of minutes and countless others. It makes me extremely mad and sad that people will do NOTHING! I understand if you are going somewhere important and you just can't stop but at least make an effort, ya know? I feel the same way, if it was my dog, I would hope someone would have the decency to make an attempt.

My biggest fear is a dog getting hit by a car! Glad you stopped and got her a safe place!

We have now done this for 3 animals. The first one was a cat and we kept her for a week to see if any leads popped up and nothing. I think she had been missing for some time, she was sooo skinny and sick. We were able to take her to a no-kill shelter. The second was a jack russel/chihuahua mix. Very young and very playful. We walked her around a bit with no such luck as to find the owners along with no tags or chip. She went to the Humane Society and never heard about her again. I was disappointed about them. We offered to foster her if they needed extra room and had troubles finding her a home. They told us they couldn't update us on what was happening with her. And they only will allow fostering if the dog has special needs or just out of surgery. The last one we rescued was a beagle/husky mix. She was a sweetheart and we were able to find her a loving family. They call every once and a while to let us know how well she is doing. It's wonderful that there are people like you willing to help because some people feel it is not their responsibility or that it is too much of a hassle. But if that were my dog running around lost, I would want somebody to help him. Kudos to your life saving selves!

Aww, yay. Hopefully she will either be adopted soon or their brainless wonder owner realized that they were missing!
