How exactly do you know how much to feed your Corgi?

Hi...I feed Gracie Eukanuba Maintenance.   The package says something like 2 1/2 cups per day for a 30 pound dog which I think would be her ideal weight.  But I feed her only 1/2 cup in the morning and evening.  And some treats during the day, yogurt, chicken/apple treats, bully stick...she weighs 33 pounds!!   I just bought the weight-control Eukanuba and it says 2 cups if your dog is overweight. Again that seems like a lot.  How are you supposed to know?  Does anyone else feed their Corgi Eukanuba?

As you all know, they're ALWAYS hungry.  She's about 21 inches from the nape of her neck to the end of her tail nub.

Hi Cindi. Twinkie's a cutie! Well, I'm mad at myself buying more Eukanuba after reading what's in it! I'm going to check out Natural Balance or Blue Buffalo. What kind of pumpkin? I've seen people talk about it before here and I'd never heard of giving it to dogs. Have a great Friday!

That is exactly like Twinkie!  We feed her 1/2 cup Twice a day and she weighs 33lbs!  The vet said that because she is such a very big girl, he just wants her under 40!!  We feed she and her sister Pro Plan Select and it is working out okay.  I would rather feed her a little less and be able to give some treats.  I think you probably don't need the weight control food.  You could cut back a bit more on the kibble and and add veggies or pumpkin.  When we were worried about her weight, we did that and she loved it!  Good job Carolyn!

We used to but we switched to Taste of the Wild. NEVER goes by what the bag says you just need to find what is best for your dog. Look in the back of the bag too, if it has chicken by-product or any by-product  it would be best to use a differant brand.

Thanks.  I also found www.dogfoodadvisor.com.   You can sort by 1 - 5 star ratings of food.

I suggest you look up past discussions. There's one I started (it's under Corgi Health and it has some good referance material that others provided. Especially about corn being the main ingredient. Good luck!

Henry gets 1/2 cup twice a day and he is about 29 lbs.

Hi Jane,

Corn meal is the first ingredient, then chicken, chicken by-product...etc.. not much yogurt at all, maybe a teaspoon, ok maybe a puperoni too...we go for a walk around the block in the morning, I play fetch with her at lunch, another walk at night.  We could probably both do with more exercise and veggies.

The dog food companies always state more than needed. Mine get 1/2 cup 3 times a day. Veggies are great. How much yogurt and chicken is she getting and also how much exercise? Does your dog food have corn in it?
